Niners offer Norv lucrative deal to convince him to stay

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2744279

According to Ed Werder of ESPN.com:

The San Francisco 49ers are offering Norv Turner a lucrative incentive package in his contract in a bid to persuade him to remain and continue developing quarterback Alex Smith, rather than interviewing for the Dallas Cowboys' head-coaching position, according to sources.

Looks like the Niners really do value Turners contribution to Alex Smith. I hope he accepts.

I honestly
Believe this is great news. The 49ers continued commitment to improvement over the last few years based around a core of key figures, one of whom has become Norv Turner, shines through in this offer.

Good on them.

Nolan clearly in charge
If this pay raise goes through, it shows Mike Nolan is CLEARLY in charge.  Anybody but York, right?

I don't think that he was (is) really going to go
to Dallas anyway. It is great to see that his talent is appreciated and that the team is serious about developing it's talent and comitted to winning NOW. Just sit back in the shadows and make your money, John York.

Great News
Hopefully this will entice Turner to stay.  It would be really detrimental to Alex Smith's development to have to learn another coordinators system.  It would be his 4th system in 4 years (counting his last season in college).  No matter how much talent a player possesses it just wouldn't be fair to judge his development because he wouldn't have had the time to actually learn a whole system and then make the learn the nuances that will make his job easier.

Bad news
ESPN Radio is reporting that Turner turned down the Niners offer, and the Dallas Star-Telegram is reporting he is now the leading candidate for the Cowboys job. Not looking good at this point.

Norv
must be a glutton for punishment. C'mon Norv, what are you thinking. Could we throw money at Norm Chow if Turner leaves? Or maybe coax Montana into coming to the team as a QB coach/mentor to Smith?
