Week 10 (Seahawks) Link Dump

So the week is starting off on a injury foot:

  • Jonas Jennings has been placed on IR (Barrows).
  • Justin Smiley has a separated shoulder, but could play this week (Barrows).
  • As most of us know, Patrick Willis has a broken hand, but shouldn't miss any playing time (Barrows).
Is the Jonas Jennings injury a good thing or a bad thing?  Adam Snyder got tore up quite a bit this past weekend going against Abraham, could he rebound?  From what I understand, Kwame Harris is now the backup at both tackle positions, keeping Staley at RT regardless if Snyder goes down with injury as well.

[UPDATE 2007.11.05 @ 04:14PM] According to Matt Maiocco, Smiley may opt for season ending surgery later this week after MRI results revealed a torn labrum.

Jennings has been hurt since he got here
It'd be nice to have the guy healthy, but he's never been completely healthy since he's been here and frankly, it hasn't mattered much. Waste of money. He should be released or traded.

It's tough
I kind of think that both Jennings and Smiley are better out of the starting lineup, for all sorts of reasons. The most important is that neither is likely in the long term plans (and Smiley is barely in the short term plans), whereas we seriously need to evaluate Baas and Snyder out there.

The other reason I think it's good is that neither one has been playing very well. At all. I can barely blame Snyder for getting torn to shreds by Abraham, by the same logic I gave Staley a bit of a pass against Strahan. Obviously, Snyder may not be the answer to begin with (he's struggled more than he should have over the last two years, but he's also done some awfully nice things on the field).

Either way, Baas and Snyder should be on the field instead of Jennings and Smiley. I don't know if I trust either of them any more, but I'm willing to call it a wash right now, and at least the younger guys MIGHT still be on the team in a few years.

Tuesday morning links
Matt Maiocco offers his thoughts on the question of, "when do the 49ers fire Mike Nolan?"  Patience is a virtue, I think, is what he suggests.

He also has a piece on the probable departure of Jonas Jennings.  Within that article, he notes the Ronnie Lott comments from last week.  If what Lott says is true, then perhaps thats why Nolan has been yanking him around.  It may also be why after two weeks, he's finally having surgery.  Nolan decided he wasn't playing anymore this year, and he may not be back.  Surgery will make him a little more enticing in trade offers.

Willis
Vote for Patrick Willis for Rookie of the Week:

Yeah....he'll win for sure.....no other rookies did anything of note this week.

We are not who I thought we were.

Except...
Adrian Peterson had a kick-assdecent game. I mean, only 296 yards and 3 TDs, but he gave it his all and isn't that what really matters?

Well
defensive rookies.

And Adrian Peterson is a freak. Let's not forget that he's doing this after tearing his knee to pieces how long ago, less than a year? Was it longer than that?

Niners re-sign Green
Maiocco reports that we re-signed pass rusher Roderick Green who had 4.5 sacks in 9 games with us last year.  He's a one-dimensional player, but that dimension is something we have exactly zero of, so it makes sense.  Put him on the field, let's get some sacks!

According to these maps , we'll be getting Denver at KC early on CBS, no early game on Fox (for no good reason), and Dallas at NYG late on Fox (Chicago at Oakland must be blacked out).  This doesn't make sense.  Most of the west coast is getting Minn at Green Bay in the morning on Fox.  There is no local team playing at home on the other channel at that time.  There's no reason for us to not get a second game.  The NFL and TV networks are stupid stupid stupid.

things change
we will be getting three games sunday after all, Denver at KC as well as Minn-GB in the morning, followed by Chicago-Oakland in the afternoon.  All is as it should be.  Make it 4 games if you count SD-Indy in the nightcap.  Good weekend for sports on TV.  Even my Wahoos are on (for only the 2nd time this season) - trying to ruin Miami's farewell to the Orange Bowl game.  Plus Monday is a Holiday!  Kick ass.

Hmm.
I had no idea Monday was considered a holiday.  I know the technical holiday is Sunday, so does that translate to Monday off for most people?  Or is it one of those bank and federal employee holidays only?

don't know
I work for a public school district, so we're off.

Unions
I know unions (at least of the construction variety) have Monday off.

Marques Douglas Blog entry
In his most recent blog entry, Matt Maiocco linked a blog entry written by Marques Douglas entitled, "Why I Play Hard for the 49ers."

Well golly
If I didn't like the guy before...

I'm all warm and tingly inside.

Same.
It's kind of nice how he got his point across even if the writing itself was kind of, bad.
