I'm heading out of town today until Thursday for Christmas, so I figured I'd get this up now.  I'm flying out of Oakland at 4:50, so I figure I'll head over early to watch the game there before my flight.  If I can get wireless access I'll try and get a recap up before my flight, but if not I'll get something up later in the evening.

If this is indeed Bryant Young's last home game, let's hope he can go out with a bang!

GO NINERS!

Fantasy Update
I also forgot to mention that there was a consolation bracket for the top 4 teams that didn't make the playoffs.  We got into that bracket and have found ourselves in the championship game.

Currently, we lead Field Gulls in the finals 62-27. He had Marion Barber get him 18 points and Jason Witten get him 5 points yesterday.  We got 29 from Roethlisberger on Thursday and 19 from Steve Smith yesterday.  Fred Taylor has 14 for us already today.  Rosters the rest of the way:

NN: Taylor, S. Alexander, R. Johnson, L. Coles (didn't know until yesterday he was finished for the year and rosters lock at the first game of the week), L. Fitzgerald, Winslow, Graham, Redskins DST.

FG: Palmer, Fargas (out), A. Davis, Gage, Reggie Williams, Josh Brown, Droughns, Colts DST.

Not enough players on the field?

Hicks
he returns KO's to the left 100% of the time. Do they ever call return to the right?

Hill to Jackson!
not exactly Montana to Clark or Young to Rice, but it works right now.

One of the things I prefer about Hill...
Everyone on the team seems to play with a bit more fire now that he is at the helm.  I think there is something to be said for a team rallying behind a QB it believes in.  I'm not in the locker room or anything, so obviously this is all speculation, but the team is playing like they give a damn over the last couple of games and didn't play that way with Smith/Dilfer.  Its good to see.

True
There seems to be more fire in their bellies.

IMHO
While I absolutely respect this line of thinking, I just can't convince myself that Shaun Hill starting and the team playing better have anything more to do with each other than coincidence. I'm just skeptical that's what's happening.

And I'm not saying this to knock on Hill. I'm slowly getting on that train, too. I just still think that his success has more to do with the team playing well than the team playing well has to do with his success.

Or, not his success, because I think he'd be doing alright anyway, but the comparative perception of his success when people look at him as opposed to either Smith or Dilfer. If that makes sense.

Anyway, just my two cents.

Reality
Well, the reality is that Hill won. But then again the Bucs were pulling starters out in the second quarter, so you can't say it was a very stern test. The Browns will need to win next week in order to get into the playoffs, we'll be playing there, and the conditions will probably be typical late December by Lake Erie. That will be a much better test.

When Smith first separated his shoulder I'd hoped that they would have moved on to Hill. After a couple of Dilfer starts, and then seeing Smith try to throw in Seattle with his separated shoulder, it made no sense to waste the rest of the year with Dilfer.

Hill certainly seems to have more pocket presence than Smith, but that could also be due to the circumstances of the games (like today's didn't mean much for the Bucs) and that the offense has been practicing together for the whole season, so you'd expect that they would eventually get it right.

Another thing to consider is that even with three passing TDs I don't think Hill reached 140 yards today.

I would hope that they'd resign Hill and have a true competition in training camp. Hell, I wouldn't mind them bringing in a real third quarterback to compete. That means I hope that Dilfer retires.

I got one game right, and that was the Patriots.

On that note!
I just realized I can promise NOTHING in terms of results until after I sober up on Wednesday. I should be sober long enough on Tuesday morning to go to church (mass with the g/f's family) and come home to get drunk again.

That may be an exaggeration, but still... this might just be the best x-mas ever.

vernon needs to learn
when to just get down.  I love that he can fight for some extra yards, but you have to give in eventually.

That was a nice strip.  He is a sneaky motherfucker and I love him.  Anyone who says he hasn't earned his contract is wrong and doesn't know what they're talking about.

Don't forget 52.

Today's line for Bam-Bam, according to Yahoo:

18 tackles, 16 solo, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass deflection.

What perfect timing for him to put up this type of week in my fantasy league championships.
