Best Game I've Ever Seen by Peter King
Montana, as usual, said nothing I can remember after the game. He never did say much. But what a player. Looking back, I know that's the best I ever saw one of the top five quarterbacks ever play.
Looks like Joe Montana made quite the impression on Peter King. Anyone else remember this game? I miss the days of Montana and Lott and miss having an owner who cared as much as Eddie D. What is your favorite 49ers memory?

Niners
Because I don't remember the SF Giants being that far down in any game of the 2002 playoffs.

Other Great Games...
- '89 - MNF, 49ers at LA Rams. 49ers from behind to win on 2 90+ yard John Taylor TDs
- '94 Season NFC Championship Game. Cowboys vs. 49ers. 49ers finally take down the 'boys.
- '98 Season Opener. Jets vs. 49ers. Rice returns. Hearst wins it in OT with 96 yard TD run.
1. '90 Season NFC Championship Game. Damn you Leonard Marshall! Damn you Matt Bahr!

1994 NFC Title Game
Seeing them finally beat the Cowboys and get to the Super Bowl was such a fun game...definitely one of my favorite.
Seeing Hearst with the big OT run was a really fun one to watch also.

I agree, and one more to add
The other game of note was the 1998 wild card game against the Packers. The game that gave birth to the monster that would become T.O. I remember watching Terrell drop multiple passes that day, blaming the sun in his eyes at least once, then coming up with the big catch, getting sandwiched between two angry Packers, and holding on to the ball. Then the man formerly known as Terrell wept and hugged the Mooch. When Young was asked after the game whether the play should be called the Catch II, he quipped that it should be called the Throw (hence my Niners Nation moniker). It was a fantastic throw...

Your handle
That one play sends chills down my spine every single time I see it. The play starts and suddenly Young is going down from an uneven patch of grass and the game is over and the world is a dark dark place and then he's just not on the ground and the ball is in the air and there are fifteen Packers flying through the air, but the ball threads through all of them into T.O.'s unbelievably tiny hands, and he's crushed... and there's no way to tell if he held on to it and the world is dark again because you know that he's dropped everything thrown his way up to that point, and then the sign: Touchdown! And the world erupts into a fiery, blazing light, and the 49ers win the game, and everything is good.
It might have been the single best throw I've ever seen, historical highlights included.
And now that I think about it, Steve Young might be the only QB T.O. has caught who he didn't criticize, even in retrospect (Tony Romo pending).

Young
It'll be interesting to see how the Romo/TO relationship progresses this year. Romo does seem to find TO more than Bledsoe did. And if Romo can keep TO happy the Cowboys will be looking pretty scarey.

AH yes!
That was back when T.O. was just emerging and, in many ways, he seemed humble. I remember him crying on the Mooch after the game, and I actually thought, "Wow, he really thought he had let his team down, and now he is redeemed. That's great." Probably the last time T.O. ever felt more for his team than for himself.

One more thing about the 94 game
All that B.S. during the season about taking one game at a time and setting their sights on the Superbowl, just not the case...they wanted the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game from day one.
All the sweeter since we got them and smacked them around Candlestick.

i think the interesting thing about TO this year..
this season with wade phillips as the coach...a guy who isn't a strong disciplinarian...we could see the bad TO return, particularly if things don't go well this season with the 'boys and romo reverts back to the way he played the last few games of the season.
