Fantasy Football DEF - Top 10

Well ever since the first installment of the Fantasy Football Top 10 lists things have really begun to snowball, like a snowball in Death Valley.  Anyways, here are you're Top 10 Defenses as ranking by me, the ultimate authority of all things fantasy in nature.

  1. Bears
  2. Ravens
  3. Chargers
  4. Patriots
  5. Broncos
  6. Raiders
  7. Jaguars
  8. Cowboys
  9. Panthers
  10. Steelers
My favorite pick of the group is the Oakland Raiders; they're a playoff caliber defense.  But the main reason I like them is that nobody is drafting them and I can lock them up with my 15th round pick, thus saving my 16th round pick for super stud kicker, Olindo Mare.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

I like the Raiders' defense as much as the next guy, but with an offense that may put their defense on the field more than 60% of the game, it's hard to place them too high.  They have quite a bit of talent that fit very well together, though.

The Panthers may be ranked a tad high, as an injury or two could easily drop them way out of the top 10.  I just really like their front seven, even though the (likely starting) LBs are kind of on the old side.

As for my opinions on the Bears and Chargers, I guess it could really go either way.  If you take Briggs into account, how will he affect the Bears?  If he holds out, will he weaken them tremendously?  I like the "stability" of the Chargers defense, so I went with them at #1.

On a side note, the 49ers have "come to terms with " or signed Dashon Goldson (according to the Contra Costa Times) and Thomas Clayton (according to this feature at Scout.com).  That leaves just Willis, Hill, and McDonald.  Not bad at all.

Willis
Well Timmons signed earlier this week, something like 5 years $12M.  So that should provide a measuring point.  Hopefully we can get Willis locked up and into camp soon.

Yeah.
From what I've read over the past few weeks, it seems like the 49ers have little doubt everyone will be signed by the time everyone reports to training camp (Sunday).  It's nice to have a regime that puts signing of draft picks so high up on the priority list.  It seems like in the not too distant past, 49ers draft picks would miss at least a day or two of training camp.

This is where my ability
Hits a wall. I like scouting and listing out individual players, but I'm just not good enough at tracking performance and changes from unit to unit league-wide.

So following the snowball analogy, expect my contribution to have melted off.

I keep reliving the moment when Steve Young almost fell down... over and over...
