Niners Nation Prediction: 49ers win 27-24

Feel free to enter your predictions HERE

So this open thread is going up Saturday evening.  The reason being that I'm heading out with friends and while I think I'll end up back here tonight, if I do I think it's an iffy proposition that I'll be up by 10am.  I've got the TiVo set to begin recording at 9:59 am and will be raring to go (or at least coherent for the game by the middle of the first quarter).

This is a very winnable game for the 49ers and I think one the 49ers really need to win.  If a team wants to make the playoffs, they need to snatch some road wins.  This is a chance for one of those road wins.  The Rams are coming off a tough loss to Carolina, as well as the loss of Orlando Pace.  So let's get out there and take care of business!

GO NINERS!

Kirby my dog
Kirby is our very old dog, an akita-shepherd mix, really loving, but he's old and stinky and wakes me or my girlfriend up early every morning. Today was my turn to get up and let him into the backyard to do his business. So unlike Fooch I was up early enough to hear the last part of the show that came on BEFORE the Fisherman's Forecast on KNBR. So I've been drinking coffee and looking through the sports pages with the pre-pre-pre-game shows playing in the background.

Ray Ratto is right in describing this game. It's under the radar. Way under. Last week the Rams looked bad in losing, the Niners looked bad in winning. This week no one is paying attention to this game. Maybe I'm up getting another cup of coffee or something but I haven't heard anyone even mention the game.

This is a game for the Niners to take. If their talent is as good as we think it is, and if their offensive play-calling is as good as we think the talent can be, then they should win this game. The Ram offense should be better than Arizona's, so our offense can't be so conservative to expect the defense to hold them to zero all game. Our offense needs to tip the balance so that the Rams can't rely on handing off to Jackson. We need to put the Rams in a hole so that Bulger is forced to pass.

And can we take a vote to retire that damned song about Shady Brady and Belicheat? I don't need to hear it anymore.

This sucks...
I'm counting on you guys to post the updates during the game. I won't get to watch because I have Time Warner and well.... they suck.

How I long for the "Sunday Ticket"...

I agree... this game is winnable! C'mon NINERS!!!

Inactives
The San Francisco 49ers have declared DL Atiyyah Ellison, TE Billy Bajema, FS Dashon Goldson, CB Donald Strickland, WR Jason Hill, DL Ray McDonald, OG Tony Wragge inactive for Week 2.

by marcello on Sep 16, 2007 9:53 AM PDT   0 recs

Christ
The announcers are having some trouble early.  Mispronouncing names, saying the wrong team, and just generally confused it sounds.

NICE PRESSURE THOUGH.  3 sacks already.

by marcello on Sep 16, 2007 10:12 AM PDT   0 recs

Terrible
Are there any NFL players who actually know how to field a punt?

Brandon Williams sucks
He muffed the punt, giving the ball to the Rams around the twenty after the Niners' D had three sacks on the Rams first drive. What does that say?

Like I said, the Niners need to open things up. You can't play offense not to lose because you've got Brandon Williams fielding kicks for you.

Passed on first down
Deep, too. But Jackson dropped the ball.

I'm sure...
The Alex Smith haters are probably already licking their chops, nevermind that he's thrown 3 perfect passes only to see 2 dropped and the 3rd result in a first down called back due to penalty.

Gore drops a swing pass on 3rd down
So Smith has two dropped passes and a third pass was cancelled out by a facemask penalty. Rams take over on their 11. Maybe the Niners' defense can force a dozen safeties today, because the offense still look out of sync.

by Bob In Pacifica on Sep 16, 2007 10:27 AM PDT   0 recs

Bruce beats Lewis
but the pass is overthrown. Not too much pressure on that play.

brandon williams
was a terrible draft pick.  He clearly sucks at being a receiver since he's about 12th on our depth chart.  we ask him to do ONE thing, return punts, and he sucks at that too.

Looks like a Ram ran into Williams on the punt
Fifteen yards, putting the Niners on the Rams' 39. Before that a hold on the first punt attempt. That's a thirty-four-yard difference in field position. Can they take advantage?

I'm SOOOOO not sold on Brandon Williams...obviously he drew the interference call but he probably should have called for the fair catch sooner...
