Around SBN: How Not To Criticize Tom Brady For The Patriots' Loss

Hate For The Patriots

I'm not above taking cheap shots at the Patriots, who have desecrated the few records we actually do respect in the NFL this season, but I noticed something during the Indy game that got my wheels turning for a discussion topic and a poll.

Star-divide

Between the 3rd and 4th quarters, 8 regional finalists were announced for the annual Punt, Pass & Kick program for kids. They were accepted with probably the expected tepid applause from the crowd eager to get back to a nailbiter, but what struck me was what happened when they announced the 12 year old girl who had won representing her NE team. She got booed!! I understand Patriot hate- hell, I practice Patriot hate. But my question to you guys is, do you think this crowd went too far?

This is an example of something I didn't even know whether to laugh at initially, and it's questionable as to whether I would have joined in if I were there or not. I know for a fact I never would have been the one to start booing out the 12 year old, but I have to admit, I cheered a little (on the inside).

To her credit, the girl took it like a champ and just smiled and waved the whole time, singlehandedly showing more class than the New England area team.

patriots girl
There's been plenty made of it and actually, the Patriots are having her at Gillette for recognition during the title game this weekend.

But, uh... don't ever link me to that place again. I feel like I have to take a shower now. I'll be back once my McAfee finishes its thorough scan for viruses.

What?
You didn't find it the least bit humerous that the first sentence of that entry started: "The New England Patriots, an organization that understands and exemplifies class..."

Because I found that highly amusing.

Definitely
Had me a good little chuckle on that one! I'm just waiting for the Sports Illustrated book covering the Patriots season, entitled If We Did It: A Perfect Patriots Season In Review (foreword by O.J. Simpson).

Colts site response
I love how Stampede Blue, our Colts site discussed the very same issue:

Ah yes
Colts fans are quickly becoming the whiniest fans in the league, and bear their own fine stamp of classlessness (lots of s's there) from time to time. Which is too bad because I really like liking the Colts... they're so darn like-able.

Pretty Funny
I haven't read anything else about what happened but I did see it and it looked like the girl laughed it off, almost like see knew it was coming.  If she took it too seriously well that's a life lesson learned for a 14 year old.  Bottomline, it was a joke, a little immature but a joke none the less.

If this gets blown into a big deal it'll just be another example of the pussification of America.  I could understand if the girl was tramatized or crying but she laughed it off.  It's not like they were making deaths threats, they were merely booing like Casper the friendly ghost.

Me
I think it's somewhere between being in bad taste but not harmful and completely unacceptable, and closer to the former at that. I think it's taking a good thing (sports rivalry) too far, but it's not like they were actually making personal attacks. I probably would have tossed a good natured boo, the same way I hiss when I see somebody in Stanford garb, but I wouldn't have let it last. It's not really a big deal, and the girl handled it beautifully, but I think it was taking things just a little farther than they should have gone.

Funny
I thought it was funny.  But then again, I boo the little kids that announce the batter at SF Giants games.

Oh Come On
I hate this overhyped mumbo jumbo.
She took it all in stride, like a champ.

Tell both team's fans to shut the fark up and stop whining.

No big deal
I remember Niner fans booing a boy around the same age in a Cowboys jersey at Candlestick during a 90's playoff game. Nobody made a big deal about it back then, but there weren't blogs back then, or lots of shows with screaming sports reporters back then either.

pretty bad taste
but then again if this was baseball and the kid was in SF representing the dodgers I'm sure I'd boo the f- out of her.

Pats
What I like about the Pats: I remeber when they made what I think was their first Super Bowl appearence and were introduced as a team. To me that was the epitome of a classy football team, (I hope I am not ostrecized from NN for making that statement).

What I don't like about the Pats: Since then and especially this year, I have had enough of the Pats complimenting other teams. I mean, it's okay to a point. But every week they spout out the same b/s, "[insert team name here]have a really great defense, they are going to be tough to stop, etc." Who ever is doing the b/s-ing usually has a little smirk to compliment the compliments. Please. These guys seem to be masters of not only football but psychology. I guess that would make Belichick, Freud.

Nail's Head, Meet Hammer
That "little smirk" is exactly what drives me crazy about these bunch of hacks. This pack of jerks now holds our most sacred records in the NFL, and for years we'll hear about how the Pats own the perfect season in the modern era. Can you imagine Joe Montana complimenting another team with a smarmy smirk on his face? The closest to the attitude these jerks maintain was Steve Young's quote after winning the big one: this will shut them up for at least one day. Everyone who can't wait to get their hooks into you will have nothing to say- at least for today.

That's the Patriots attitude every time they make even a single play. Anyone know where I can get a hold of Brain Macnamee? I'd like to send Shawne Merriman a little good luck syringe gift.
