Week 5 Prediction Game
EDITOR'S NOTE: As always, feel free to make picks at any point. If you miss any of the games, you can still pick the later ones. One perfect prediction will more than make up for missing a bunch of games.
As howtheyscored said, we're settling into a nice little groove in the prediction game a quarter of the way into the season. I'm quite comfortable in the massive logjam at 7th and plan on biding my time before making my move. Onto the games.
49ers vs. New England - Sunday 10/5 1:15pm
Pittsburgh @ Jacksonville - Sunday 10/5 NBC Game 5:15pm
Minnesota @ New Orleans - Monday 10/6 5:30pm
Washington @ Philadelphia - Sunday 10/5 10:00am
Seattle @ NY Giants - Sunday 10/5 10:00am
Buffalo @ Arizona - Sunday 10/5 1:15pm
Once again, all tough games to call. Even Seattle at the Giants is interesting considering the Seahawks will have Bobby Engram and Deion Branch back in the house. Anybody have the balls to take the Seahawks on the road?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

ask not what your predictions can do for you, ask what you can do for your predictions
New England @ 49ers – 23-20. Sorry kids, but you got to go with what’s working.
Pittsburgh @ Jacksonville – 20-24. I’m taking the over. Pitt has no more running backs.
Minnesota @ New Orleans – 21-26. We saw first hand that the Saints can score.
Washington @ Philadelphia – 20-24. Washington showed they can play with anybody, but I don’t think they pull the upset two weeks in a row.
Seattle @ NY Giants – 21-27. The hawks are gonna get better, but not that much better.
Buffalo @ Arizona – 23-26. This is supposedly the closest matchup. I think Buffalo is good but their undefeated streak might end here. That being said, I’m not confident with this pick at all.

I took the Pittsburgh just because I thought that of two bad teams, Pittsburgh has shown a little more this year and their defense is a lot better. That was the one I waffled on the most, though, by far. The homefield team scares me (homefield RULED the day last week).

two bad teams?
I don’t know if I’d call Pittsburgh and Jacksonville 2 bad teams, jacksonville plays in the 2nd best division and holds its own with anybody- and pittsburgh is in first place and a super bowl contender
by albertoleecho on Oct 3, 2008 6:00 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Pittsburgh is beat up and has barely gotten out of the games it did win, mostly on the basis of its defense. Jacksonville has stuggled on both sides of the ball and didn’t convince me in either of their wins. If I’m underestimating either team, it’s the Jaguars, but I’m just not feeling them.
Although, bad teams was certainly wrong. I should have said “unimpressive” teams.

It’s not really any different than starting Matt Cassel on your fantasy team this week. Like you said, it’s just a game. Different people have different tastes for how they play it. There’s no conflict of interest between hoping that one thing will happen and believing that another is more probable.

and well put. This is a game. It doesn’t matter what I predict, I will always unequivocally root for the 49ers. That being said, I don’t think they’re going to win every week, and I don’t think it’s good strategy to predict they will win against my better judgement.
