The final bid for my College Football Soul....
EDITOR'S NOTE 10/13 4:45pm: I realize some of us aren't college football fans, or are not fans of the teams here, but I thought it'd be fun to move this to the front page. StrictlyFootball is looking for a college football team to cheer for (here's his original post about the subject). So, vote away and if you have a particular suggestion or reason, throw it in the comments.
Well this it, the final vote/discussion. California won (shocker), so all DIV-1 CAL teams will be represented, (Except CAL) but because of two big pulls for outside of CAL teams in the comment section, I will also be including Boise St. and Oregon.
How this final Vote will be determined is 60% votes, 20% General Comments (Not just amount but also conviction) and 20% the person's team who made the best argument.
The teams how I see them, that's left:
San Jose State - Not that great of a team, but some big talent has come out of their school (Joe Nedney for one), and is very local.
UCLA - Has a great history, but is on a down swing as of late (kind of like the 49ers), but is still competitive.
Stanford - Has had "The Play", great history, is very local, and is currently on a big upswing.
Fresno State - An over-acheiving underdog who has done alot with not that much, is local enough to make a day trip, and is (or was) ranked.
USC (University of Spoiled Children - JK) - A prerinail favorite for the BCS championship, a california team, and has many pro prospects to root for in the NFL.
San Diego State - A Cal team, not that great, rarely see them on TV.
Oregon - Great Uniforms ;), has Donald Duck as their mascot, very competitive/ranked team, and has some pro level talent.
Boise St. - Statue of Liberty Play, perennial upset-er, blue turf, and great coaching.
So those are the final choices. I will announce who I will be a fan for this Wednesday at 9:00pm.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

USC
I think it’s pretty much a given that you can’t pick USC. That’d be like picking the Yankees or Red Sox. It’s more fun to pick somebody somewhat below the radar. I’ll come up with a more impassioned plea for Boise State.

And at some point I’ll move this to the front page. I’m thinking sometime on Monday so people have some time to get the vote in.

Thanks Man...
It’s much appreciated. I’m watching the OKLA vs. TEXAS game with 3 minutes left, and god it’s a good game.

San Diego? As in San Diego State University or some… other… there aren’t any others with football teams, are there?
My dad went to San Diego State, so I’ll put in a secodary vote there.
My cousin goes to Fresno, and their football team is better / more accessible / easier to root for. So that’s where I put my poll vote.

University of San Diego is D 1-AA but they could probably beat SDSU. I’m SDSU class of ’06 but damn they are pretty awful.

Stanford – Has had “The Play”
They lost on The Play.
Or was your point that you felt sorry for them because of that?

I Just...
wanted to illustrate that they have had some historic moments. I mean I didn’t want to delve into some notables, like John Elway who finished second for the Hiesman, I was just doing something quick.

Someone who was searching for an NFL team probably wouldn’t pick the Cowboys partly because of The Catch.
I understand history is nice, but isn’t it history that you’d like to be proud of?

True...
But hey what people don’t remember about that game is John Elway led a 80 yard drive in the last two minutes to take the lead

They got cheated on The Play. Way to do your job refs. Forward lateral? Have three please.

Absolutely no evidence that any of those were forward. The video is ridiculously inconclusive.
And anyway, if Stanford wanted the play to be easy to call, they shouldn’t hae obscured all of the referee sight-lines with their band.

I think one dude was even tackled before he got rid of the ball. Regardless, I’m still mad at the ass-hat band. One of those fucks should have been paying attention to what was happening and made the tackle.

what about the michigan nebraska game a few years back
when nebraska rushed the field too early, one of the players who wasn’t even the game made the game saving tackle, and the refs didn’t do anything.

“I think one dude was even tackled before he got rid of the ball.”
That’s what always got me (a Stanford fan, obviously). The (possibly) forward laterals I can live with — they happened so fast, and it’s nearly impossible for a ref to be in position to see that conclusively — and we can only blame ourselves for the band on the field, but that one dude is on the ground with three guys on top of him and then he laterals. Ohhh-kay.

Gotta Be SDSU!!!
Fight on and on ye Aztec men
Sons of Montezuma
We will win again
Keep your spirits high
Never bow a knee
We will fight till victory
Fight on and on ye Aztec men
Proudly raise your banners high
For it’s the Red and Black
Hail to our team
San Diego Aztecs fight!
But seriously, we could use all the help we can get…
The bases were drunk, and I painted the black with my best yakker. But blue squeezed me, and I went full. I came back with my heater, but the stick flares one the other way and the chalk flies for two bases. Three earnies! Next thing I know, skipper hooks me and I'm sipping suds with the clubby.

I'll reiterate...
OREGON DUCKS
1. Exciting offense (Chip Kelly= Genius)
2. Great young talent (Chris Harper, Darron Thomas, LaMichael James, Dion Jordan, etc…)
3. Autzen Stadium (one of the loudest and most intimidating stadiums in the country)
4. Consistant Recruiting Classes (due to elite athletic facilities, coaching staff, uniforms that are popular with the current recruiting generation)
5. Great Fan Base Nationwide(esp. in California)
6. Great Overall Athletic Dept. (TrackTown USA, softball volleyball hoops cross country perennial contenders)
Don’t miss out on a chance to watch a great football team due to some uniform flash. You’ll get over it I promise.

On the recruiting front...
The Ducks just got a verbal from 4-star WR Diante Jackson. 6-2, 200 lbs with 4.5 speed. Mmmmmmmmm, it feels so good…

Plus, their mascot is a duck
Maybe the most unathletic looking animal there is.

not that I'm advocating this but...
my friend is a huge stanford fan and thinks they are up and coming. They’ve had some really good recruiting classes and apparently already have a very impressive haul of commits for this next class. Seems like Harbaugh is really doing a good job recruiting. So they could be good in a few years. Plus they have a pretty nice new stadium (been there once) um well, Dave Fleming does play by play for their games.
