Week 7 Prediction Game
I'd say I'm just biding my team before making my move, but it might just be that I stink at this this season. Of course there isn't a whole lot of space between 2nd and 14th place, so I suppose I'm not too far out.
The matchups aren't quite as exciting this week, but I think there are some tough ones to call. And all those New England prime time games must just be killing the folks at NBC and ESPN. Of course, later in the season they'll be able to move them around once it turns into flex season.
49ers @ New York Giants - Sunday 10/19 10:00am
Seattle @ Tampa Bay - Sunday 10/19 NBC Game 5:15pm
Denver @ New England - Monday 10/20 5:30pm
New Orleans @ Carolina - Sunday 10/19 10:00am
Baltimore @ Miami - Sunday 10/19 10:00am
Indianapolis @ Green Bay - Sunday 10/19 1:15pm
I guess the big question is how many people will actually pick the 49ers this week? This is one of the bigger tests of going with your heart versus wanting to win this contest.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Wk 7 Prediction Game
First, I would like to thank wjackalope for explaining the scoring system. I do understand it now. One question though, do you have to pick the right team to win in order to have a chance of winning pts, or is it purely based on the points total & differential?
Anyway, on to my predictions for this week:
49ers @ NY Giants- 20-34. After reading the depth of feeling you all showed after the Eagles game, I can’t believe anybody will choose the niners this week. I believe our defense, or lack of it, will cost us this game rather than any offensive errors we make.
Seattle @ Tampa Bay – 13-27.
Denver @ New England – 17-27.
New Orleans @ Carolina – 27-20.
Baltimore @ Miami – 16-24.
Indianapolis @ Green Bay – 27-31.

New Orleans @ Carolina 27-17

Predictions, like hell, are not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the prediction the more glorious the triumph.
49ers @ New York Giants – 20 – 31. Boy would I love to see myself be wrong on this one.
Seattle @ Tampa Bay – 14 – 24. The ’Hawks are gonna get Garcia-d.
Denver @ New England – 27 – 21. Upset special.
New Orleans @ Carolina – 20 – 24. I don’t feel good about this pick.
Baltimore @ Miami – 17 – 20. This is a hard one. I’m tempted to take Baltimore because I think they’re gonna be fired up to bounce back after last week’s humiliation. But the Dolphins are playing pretty well…
Indianapolis @ Green Bay – 23 – 26. Upset special #2. I think Indy takes a step back again after a great showing last week.

speaking of that 49er-giants game 6 years ago...
…it was funny (and sad) hearing joe buck mention several times during the game that the niners were #1 in the league on 3rd down conversions that season. it was also funny (sad) when aikman praised jim mora, jr. for switching from man-to-man to 2-deep zone in the middle of the game because the niner CBs were getting toasted. the giants didn’t score after he did that. success on 3rd down? in-game defensive adjustments? where have you gone steve mariucci? i should note: this is coming from a guy (me) who was at the tampa bay game the next weekend when, down 28-6, mooch had the niners quit…i mean…kneel at midfield with a minute left in the first half and two timeouts left. watching this game again makes me think about how unbelievable it is that a coach could get fired one week after the 2nd biggest comeback in NFL playoff history. i know, leaving that tampa game, i wanted york to do more than fire mooch. waterboarding comes to mind. looking back though, i think it was the turning point in the history of the franchise…and not for the better obviously.
by (Florida) Danny Tuccitto on Oct 18, 2008 1:54 PM PDT reply actions
I totally agree
I’ve said that exact same thing many times — Mariucci’s inexplicable decision to kneel in that spot changed the course of Niner history, and not for the good. That move so infuriated the fans (myself included) and York, that Mooch was fired with no plan at all in place to replace him. All the candidates brought in to interview were totally uninspired (Greg Blache?), the hiring (Erickson?!) was even worse, and the team hasn’t ever recovered.

glad someone agrees...
that game was a total disaster…first, the $.50/hr “event staff” wouldn’t let my girlfriend at the time in the stadium because her purse was 3/4" larger than moussolini-esque stadium guidelines would allow. we had to walk a mile back to the car, and then a mile back to the stadium, only to return to the back of the line. maybe it was the niner shirts we were wearing?
then, our seats were in the lower bowl right next to that f***ing pirate ship, so we got to hear those cannon blasts up close and personal. in conversation, i still have to apologize that my, “could you repeat that?” is a result of that f****ing cannon.
finally, after getting our asses handed to us, the mile-long walk back to the car was peppered with stereotypical tampa rednecks (and their teenage children) taunting us the whole way with socially-enlightened smacktalk like, “jeff garcia is a faggot!!!” and “T.O. is f***ing garcia in the a** in the locker room right now!!!” it was sooooooo awesome.
hell will freeze before i ever go to another niner game in tampa. the first one i ever went to was the game in 97 when that dirty-ass warren sapp face-masked jerry rice into a torn acl. i’ll never forget george stewart’s face after that game when we asked him down by the team bus if jerry was ok. death became him…and not to mention that the old tampa stadium had a fountain-like circular piss trough in the middle of the guys bathroom…
so i guess this means i was actually at 2 turning points in niner history?
