Why not Culpepper?

Culpepper_action_medium

Espn is reporting that Daunte is thinking about coming out of retirement. Evidentially the Chiefs have contacted him. He has not been very good for a while but he could be an upgrade for the Niners. Is it worth taking a flyer on him if he is relatively cheap?

I am not sure that he would help but I am in the “throw shit against the wall and see what sticks” mode with the Niners now. Let him be a place holder till the Niners can find a QB through the draft or free agency.

probably a bad idea...

not because he hasn’t played in a little while but the fact that martz is the coordinator. the offense takes a lot of time to learn and get down with timing, reads, and so on…i think the 9ers are best with what they have already. i’d look to next year to draft or sign a new qb. also they should restructure alex smiths contract and keep him. the guy is the same age as a good amount of rookies and i think has plenty more time to develope and get his accuracy up. we’ll see…

Smith is damaged goods

Both literally and figuratively.

In the literal sense, I honestly don’t ever see him recovering fully from that shoulder injury. It happened to Tim Couch… its happening to Alex Smith. The difference is that Tim Couch actually got the Browns to the playoffs once.

In the figurative sense, there’s too much baggage there amongst Niners fans. He will never get a fair shake now. He will always be associated with the Nolan era and (rightly or wrongly) will be one of the primary symbols of Niner futility during those years. The organization needs to move on and if Smith is ever to have a chance in the league, he does too.

Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

“Tim Couch actually got the Browns to the playoffs once.”

No, he didn’t — he was benched in favor of Kelly Holcomb during the season, Holcomb led them to the playoffs, and played the entire playoff game while Couch rode the pine.

Ummm, ya’ think JTO fumbles a lot… Dante’s slower, can’t avoid a rush, and would probably have more TO’s than JTO.

Because he can’t move anymore.

Why not Shaun?

Why not give Hill a chance? After all, he was given a pretty good contract. Besides, I think Hill has better command of the game than JT or Smith.
