Who will be the 49ers next head coach?

Singletary is the 49ers interem coach but will he make it and get a multi year contract? Here are some contenders for the head coach job next year...

Mike Homegren -  His dream job and is building a house near Santa Cruz. Wants a year off to recharge his batteries. Maybe in 2 years he will be the CEO like Parcells in Miami.

Brian Billick- Billick is who the 49ers might consider. Former 49ers media relations person. Won a Super Bowl with Baltimore. Offensive mind. Worked with the new 49ers offensive line coach in Baltimore. Safe pick.

Bill Cowher- I doubt the 49ers will pony up for him. East coast kind of guy.

Marty Schotenheimer- Always puts solid teams together but has never one the big games when the chips were down. Bad luck but he deservers another chance somewhere.

Jason Garrett- Sorry his ticket is punched to stay in Dallas and take over when Wilson gets his walking papers.

Josh McDaniels- Interesting choice here with McDaniels a offensive mind who is doing a good job with Brady hurt and making Castle legit enough to handle the offense. The problem here is he is in his early 30's with no head coaching past. The 49ers might not want to take a chance on another coach for the long run with no HC experience. This guy does have fire though as exibited on the walk to the halftime locker room arguing with Hoody about the second half coming up. He will be a head coach in the near future.

Pete Carroll- If he did'nt take the SD Chargers job then he won't be coming to SF. He is the king of LA right now.

Lane Kiffin- God help us. Davis would freak though and maybe keel over dead. Raider fans would rejoice.

What do you think? Who will it be on the sideline for the 49ers in 2009?

Why not Gil Haskill?

with Mike Holmgren as the CEO type guy.

Why not Gil from 'The Simpsons'?

At least the press conferences would be more entertaining than Nolan’s.

Former ESU Coach Sam Winters.

The bases were drunk, and I painted the black with my best yakker. But blue squeezed me, and I went full. I came back with my heater, but the stick flares one the other way and the chalk flies for two bases. Three earnies! Next thing I know, skipper hooks me and I'm sipping suds with the clubby.

A little too special, after I get my hands on them.

What?
“God help us”?

Dude, Lane Kiffin did some special things trying to rebuild that team in Oakland. I’ve no doubt in my mind that he would have righted that ship, if only Al Davis wasn’t such a psychotic, stagnant, skeletal, cranky old man.

And I think Raider fans would slam their heads against the walls if we hired Lane Kiffin. Most cross-bay fans realize that Kiffin was doing a fine job before getting cheated out of it. To see him get another, more legitimate, chance somewhere else would drive them up the walls at the thoughts of what might have been.

Coach Singeltary

I would say Mike Singletary stays on board for the rest of the year and all of 2009. Beyond that, I think it would be smart to pick someone who is familiar with the system that made the 49ers a significant team. So, my guess is Holmgren will be offered the job plus an executive sounding job to go with “Head Coach.” His offensive coordinator will be Tom Rathman or Brent Jones, defensive coordinator should be offered to Matt Millen or Gary Plummer. If they cannot wait for Holmgren, they will go after Mike Shannahan.

erm?

Are you just spouting out random names of former-49er greats?

Brent Jones? The highest level at which he has coached is…his current position as a tight ends coach at Monte Vista High school.

Gary Plummer? He does color commentary for the niners’ radio broadcasts.

Matt Millen? I wouldn’t pay that guy to coach my locker room laundry crew.

Hey, why not bring back good ’ol Tim McDonald! A super bowl xxix champion and 6-time pro bowler who twice coached the Malloch Elementary football squad to undefeated seasons!

Exactly!!!

What the team exactly need are coaches from the past who were succesful at their positions and have won a super bowl or two.

Besides...

I don’t think any established coaches would take this job.

That's like saying...

… Parcells wouldn’t have taken the Patriots job back in ’93.

Blanket statements FTL.

I actually think that taking over a losing team isn’t bad unless it’s run by owners who (obviously) don’t know what they’re doing. That’s the case with a team like the Raiders, but that is NOT the case with the 49ers.

The 49ers are willing to spend money and do whatever it takes to make the team better. What more could a potential head coach ask for?

by sfgfan on Nov 6, 2008 9:57 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

agreed

davis doesn’t own this team. the yorks do and have been forking out money especially since 05. just hasn’t panned out yet. thats better than having some senile iguana running the team.
