Punchout to be Released on Wii
This has nothing to do with the 49ers but I think is pretty big for those of us who own Nintendo Wiis. One of the greatest video games ever is getting updated.

It almost worries me just because boxing sounds like such a good idea for the motion technology of the Wii, but has been pretty consistently bad in the absence of decent 1 to 1 gameplay. And since this game can’t possibly be 1 to 1 (since the video makes it clear how very throwback the gameplay is designed to be)… I just think the motion controls, if used here, are likely to be pretty unsatisfying.
Now, if there are multiple control options including classic A/B gameplay without the Nunchuck attachment, that’s where the bread and butter’s gonna be.

Other Wii games I'm looking forward to:
The Conduit:
This game is looking better and better almost by the day. The best thing that could possibly happen for the Wii is to have a game like this crush everything else in the sales. With the exception of Metroid, the Wii hasn’t had a single decent FPS game on the console. Which is a tragedy because the Wii is tailor-made for this genre. I don’t even like FPS games, with a few very notable exceptions (007, Perfect Dark 64), and I’ll almost definitely buy this game first week just to show my support for strong, mature third party efforts on a console that doesn’t have that.
de Blob:
So technically, this game already came out, but I haven’t played it yet. Did I mention how I’m supporting strong third party efforts on the Wii? This game looks like, and is being reviewed as, practically a perfect platforming experience for the Wii technology, with innovative design, smooth gameplay, and bright/colorful visuals. I got my copy the other day and I can’t wait to play it.
Animal Crossing: City Folk:
Sure, it looks nearly identical to other Animal Crossing games, but that formula WORKS, dammit!
World’s of Goo [WiiWare]:
I don’t know why this game hasn’t been released in the States yet. I remember hearing that it was a WiiWare launch in some regions, and all of the event gameplay buzz was extremely positive. As an addictive, third party puzzler with a lot of depth and a cheap price-tag, I want every part of this game. I’m just waiting for the release. Someday…
That’s all I can think of right now.
Anybody else have Wii’s? What are you playing and what are you looking forward to?

Go ahead and add these games to the mix:
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
And
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse
I think that covers it.

I’m a Nintendo fanboy at heart, even if my actions haven’t always been in line with that. Good games coming out on a good console that has, almost exclusively, been treated as a gimmick by developers makes me happy because my sentimental (and entertainment) investment is so high.
In short… yeah, I am excited.

I don’t even like FPS games
But…HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE HALO!!!!!! SRIOUSLY, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?
Seriously, though, Conduit and Punchout just made my day. “Gimmicky” is how I’ve been feeling about my Wii lately, minus Mario Strikers & Kart, but this gives me hope!

What about beirut?
I read a brief article somewhere that Nintendo is playing on release a beirut (beer pong) game for the Wii. Just imagine being able to play beirut fromt he comfort of your couch, beer in one hand, controller in the other, without ever having to chase after ping pong balls.

IGN
thinks it’s lame and not really fun at all. Plus the music is apparently MIDI. Yick.

I think it’s worth pointing out that WiiWare release “World of Goo” is about ten steps past awesome. This game is ridiculously fun, and twice as addicting. Anybody was a Wii and 15 spare bucks shouldn’t even hesitate to buy it.
