Time for Singletary
Let's get some leadership back.... The sense of urgency. Change.....You know Nolan won't be the coach next year.....we let Mariucci go after a playoff run and you won't release the worst coach we have had since the 70's? Come on now. Singletary can rally the Team. 4 and 12, 4 and 12, I'm sick of it!!! Let's Start over now,now,now....Go Niners!!!!! Make it a Season!!!!

Why
What reasons do you have for going with Singletary? I’m not saying I disagree but give us a little more.

He has leadership ability and we need a spark. If not him someone who can keep this team from sliding backwards further. We lucked out against a depleted Seahawks….and then beat the Lions….Lost 2 straight…….No 3rd down conversions……I could go on.

Singletary
He has so much leadership ability that the Falcons didn’t hire him as a head coach a little over a year ago because he was ill-prepared. According to Maiocco or Barrows, the NFL front offices feel as if Singletary may not be ready yet. I think I trust their judgment a lot more than I do any one else coming off the street.
That’s not to say he’d do a bad job, but it doesn’t really raise much in terms of confidence in my book.

Agreed
As much as I like Singletary, I think we’d be more likely to see Martz become the head coach if Nolan gets canned.

As for Singletary, only if...
the 49ers are leaking rumors that Nolan is about to be canned, I’d want Singletary become Head Coach. The issue here I believe, is who is next in line to become head coach?
Obviously with Martz barely starting to fine tune his offense with the 49ers already having a defensive coordinator, Nolan would be the one to go and for Singletary to move up.
I give my full backing to Nolan in continuing as the 49ers’ head coach, I believe he has some things he offers to the organization which can be interpreted as classy, but he cannot continue losing, pushing us to the walls.
Singletary is a favorite of mine to become the next head coach because Martz has many things to do with this offense, if Nolan doesn’t cut it.
I agree with Nolan’s assessment that many things have to be “fixed,” that it takes up most of his attention since they just came over a loss that brought the Niners down deeper in the depths of mediocrity. Once you touch mediocrity, there is no lower to go, because it’s like having a lukewarm, platonic relationship that sucks to the core. If Jerry Rice couldn’t perform valiantly in the Dancing with the Stars, then he couldn’t have been the best NFL wide receiver in history. The just-retired Sapp, formerly of the Raiders, competed nobly at the Dancing of the Stars. That’s badass! That’s not mediocrity, not even at its’ worse. That’s class.
Nolan just needs a little more class and better COMMUNICATION between everybody that is in the picture. A better chain of communication, more proficiently said. Clubhouse chemistry? Determination? Whatever fits, makes this team effort a little easier…
Nolan needs to become more poised in the battleground in terms of bringing more of an advantage to his team with more effective coaching. He has endured losing seasons, the ownership really believes in his vision, but that vision diminishes with each loss suffered.

I would like to have Singletary too, but you can’t blame Nolan he walked into a bad situation we had player on this team that didn’t belong in the NFL and a sting of bad luck a new offense coodinatoor every year a rookie quarterback with no great receivers some young guys young like him, and I think it’s still early this year I’m not ready to throw in the towel.

Martz
Martz will be a welcome change to the last few years. I agree about Singletary to some extent but he is more familiar with a majority of the players.

Biggest knock on Singletary
A lot of times it’s easy to forget that he’s not a coordinator. He’s an assistant coach who focuses on the defense. I’m not even entirely sure what he does day-to-day.

to be fair i’m not really sure what Nolan does day to day either…..

Singletary
I think he doubles as the linebackers coach, so he may be somewhat responsible for the immediate and dynamic emergence of Willis. Then again, that would mean he’s also responsible for the non-emergence of Manny Lawson.

Singletary?
ok hold up a second. singletary is part of a defense that is underperforming given the amount of talent they have on that side of the ball right now. let him be a mentor to willis for now. hes not ready to coach just yet. give it to martz if nolan gets canned mid season or find someone else to headcoach next season. as much as i like martz we all need to remember how much of an SOB he was as a headcoach.

Singletary ? Martz?
I like Singletary, i think he is a good leader and motivator but i don’t know if he is head coach material, if he was ready to be a HC wouldn’t he allready be with the falcons?. And Martz??? Comon he is like Norv Turner a great OC but not HC material. Lets keep martz as our OC and Singletary well just coaching P. Willis , and lets bring jimmy johnson out fo retirement jejeje or someone who has experience.
Get rid of nolan, i won’t stand watching another season similar to the previous ones.

Isn’t Jimmy Johnson running the show in Miami? I don’t think he’s retired anymore.

It’s Parcells in Miami. I think Jimmy Johnson is very happily providing “analysis” for FOX.

We need someone who is going to lead this team back to where it should be and thats on top. I’ve been a die-hard niner fan for a very long time now and i’m tired of loseing games. I want to see another early 90’s team again, another winning team, weather it be the coaches or the players, someone needs to get this team jump started again. No matter what i’ll stand by my niners, good times and bad,GO NINERS…

Nolan
I guess the bottom line is to build momentum and the players are not responding to Nolan

Grown men
It’s kind of goofy when players say a coach has to motivate these guys to do their job. The coaching staff seems to be VERY active in coaching technique. It is entirely up to the players to pick it up. Singletary and Nolan seem to be very active in teaching technique to these guys (along with various other position coaches), the players have to pick it up.
A lot of the mistakes on the field are mental mistakes. Things like knowing when to give up the back pedal to cover your zone, when to press and when to not, etc. I understand the coaching staff HAS made mistakes, but it’s ridiculous to accuse the players of not responding when you’re not there in the locker room to verify that.

Mike Nolan
2005 – Nolan signs as head coach for the team. Has to deconstruct and reconstruct a new roster. Can we really blame him for drafting Alex Smith ahead of Aaron Rodgers back then – who could know? Niners end the season 4th in the NFC West at 4-12 instead of last year’s 2-14.
2006 – Nolan helps the Niners significantly improve, including making Frank Gore the starting running back. They finish the year 3rd in the NFC West at 7-9.
2007 – I just shudder to think back on last season. On the upside, we did sign Nate Clements. On the downside, Alex Smith is a injury prone bust; in fact, all our QBs are injury prone; Nolan and Smith don’t get along; there are assistant coach problems all year; Dick Nolan dies during the season; Frank Gore’s mother dies during the season; the list goes on and on – without making any other excuses, we end the season at 5-11 with Shaun Hill’s 2 winning games as our only silver lining.
2008 – In spite of everything, I like the coaching staff Nolan has this year – Scot McCloughan as the GM, Mike Martz as the OC, Greg Manusky as the DC, etc. Gore is probably poised for another breakout year. We decided to go with J.T. O’Sullivan instead of Alex Smith. We’ve got Isaac Bruce & Bryant Johnson and are even looking at picking up a “stud” WR mid-season.
Even with an early 2-3 record, I still think that Nolan has done the best this year out of his 4 years so far. History has never proven favorable for any NFL team that changes head coach mid-season. Singletary seems cool – but aren’t we all really dissatisfied with the defense right now? They have the talent – but do we really blame Nolan more than Manusky or Singletary?
Here’s the deal – Nolan has got to understand that if he doesn’t make changes from what doesn’t work, then he’s lost his job. I still think he’ll be willing to throw even some of his favorite traditions to the winds, if it means winning. If he keeps losing, he’s also got to know the hue and cry from the fans will get to the management sooner than later. So look at it this way, beat those Westbrook crutch relying Philadelphia m-er-f-ers; let’s beat Hasselbeck again with his hospital room full of wide receivers, and I won’t blame Nolan for losing to the Giants right now – that would make it to the bye week with the Niners at 4-4.
And if they pick up T.J. Houshmandzadeh in exchange for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick and can sign him to an extension to work in tandem with Isaac Bruce for this season and the next … well … Nolan in 2009 might even work …
