Sign JP Losman next year
JP Losman deserves another shot in the NFL at starting QB. He will be a free agent durring the off season and the 49ers should seriously think of signing him. He has the arm and all he needs is a little coaching. This guy can put the 49ers back on the map in NFC with JTO backing him up. I have been waiting for this guy to be cut loose by Buffalo but now with Edwards banged up they might keep him.
The 49ers should pony up for him and out bid Buffalo. I believe in this guy and did you happen to see the bomb to Evans last week. The 49ers need a legit #1 QB and Losman is the player to get it done.

Losman
What is it about him that makes him desireable? Admittedly, the Bills aren’t shown in the Louisville, KY television market very often (but neither are the Niners either) so I’ve not seen him play outside of a few SportsCenter clips. What I saw never made me think he was set to light the world on fire.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."

Losman
I think that picking up Losman would be like signing a cheaper version of Alex Smith. That is, a kid who has a ton of potential whose team screwed him up in the early going. There’s no way in hell the 49ers can restructure Smith’s contract, but they CAN sign someone like Losman to a reasonable “put up or shut up” kind of contract.

THE answer?
I’m not saying he’s THE answer. I’m just saying that I’d totally understand if the 49ers were interested. I don’t know if I’d do it, but it’s not the worst move the team could make. Heck, I don’t think it could be bad at all, really.

Agreed
I also have the same television restriction against Buffalo, but even dating back to college I’ve seen nothing to indicate that Losman can succeed against high level competition. I understand the physical skill set attraction, but that has very little bearing on being able to win in the NFL (cough, Drew Brees, cough).

I think Buffalo gave up on him too soon.

But based on what? Losman was benched after struggling in a season that was following a season that wasn’t great to begin with. Given the opportunity, Trent Edwards was outperforming Losman at the time, and has demonstrated that, thusfar and at this point, he has been and is the better QB.

what about hill?
losman would be a great signing as a backup if the 9ers didn’t have hill. hill is still a solid back up maybe one of the top backups in the league. plus the 9ers gave him a nice contract to stay.

Losman
I’ve been able to watch almost every start by losman and for the 49ers this would be a HUGE mistake because he’s only accurate in the deep throws which he sometimes overshoots and he is very inaccurate on the short routes. About the deep throws the 49ers would also need to sign a deep threat which I don’t believe we have except for maybe hill, but he isn’t the best receiver in terms of hands.

No, his name is actually J-Loss
Yeah, I’m in the Bills primary market, so Bills games are broadcast in my area, and I’ve got to agree: it would be a HUGE mistake to sign him. The real resemblance between him and Alex Smith is the tendency to hold onto the ball too long. Now, we’ve got some of that problem with JTO, but at least with him you can be justified in believing that it’s because he’s waiting for people to uncover down the field; with J-Loss (as Bill Simmons likes to call him, and as is perfectly justified, given what I’ve seen) that doesn’t seem to be the case. The success of Trent Edwards pretty well proves the point: he came into the same system, with less time to learn that system, and he immediately improved the performance of that system.

hey, the jury's still out on O'Sullivan ...
… I think he still has the opportunity/potential/ability to be “a legit #1 QB.”

Yeah.
I don’t understand why people are so down on him. This is his first extensive playing time, ever. He’s shown flashes of good, which is always nice. He’s also shown flashes of bad, though, but isn’t that to be expected from a guy who is in his first year as a starter for a team?
I can possibly see the argument that he may just be benefiting from Martz’ system, but what Martz QBs that have left Martz end up ONLY being Martz products? Green is an okay QB outside of Martz’s system. Warner seems to be doing okay as well.
As it’s been pointed out here, O’Sullivan has done better than any 49ers QB in, probably, the last 4 years (AT LEAST?). It’s a little harsh to be throwing him under the bus after a few bad starts. He seems to learn, and seems to be doing the best he can. He’s still young, in terms of experience, so who knows what can happen over the remainder of the season.

AGREED
I think the jury is still out on O’sullivan. he has performed better or equal to anyone theyve had since garcia. He just has to start thinking more before slinging it like Favererrere. I think he’s good but we’ll see.

Problem is he's 29 and in his 7th season
Yet he makes the mistakes of much younger QB’s. He’s like the opposite conundrum that was/is Alex Smith. With JTO it’s like this, how much better is 29 year old QB going to get? Well it is his first year starting. With Smith it’s like, how much better is a 4 year starting QB going to get? Well he is only 23.
JTO is doing a pretty good job but his ball security is a major concern.
