Vernon Davis
If The Niners need another good receiver (see the Houshmandzadeh posts) and if Vernon Davis is being under/misused at TE, why don't we use him in a receiver role? He is "blazing fast" and "freakish"ly athletic. Would there be any league restrictions on this? Is there some kind of a personality issue with the coaches or management that I do not know about? Get another good blocking TE, and unleash the BEAST! Just make him a receiver!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Then we only have 2/3’s of a receiver..

Sorry, they haven't been showing the games here in Alaska
So he’s been dropping the ball. Damn, get a sports psychologist and hypnotize him, or something. I’d bet that upping his reps catching the ball in practice would work, especially combined with some behavior modification techniques. I have a feeling that our coaches are letting the niners be a finesse (read: prima donna) team, when they should be promoting basic, hard-nosed football skills.

Hypnotize him? Behavior Modification?

If I could photoshop Vernon Davis’s face into this, I would.
You do realize that you’re talking crazy talk?

I think
that’s beyond my capabilities. Or I might be able to do it but it would take a week. No I don’t think I could do it.

practice
He’s been working with O’Sullivan after practice to get the chemistry down. Maybe it’s a mental thing.

Just make him a tackle
Then no need for that 3rd part of the game.

...
I would split him out every once in a while and have him crack block the outside linebacker…could open up some room for Gore to bounce it outside once he gets to the 2nd level
I think I pulled my swagger muscle...

Now that should piss VD off
Move him to receiver, and then ask him to block some more.

There was a big article in the Chronicle on it this morning. I only skimmed it, and I’m in a hurry to get out of the house right now so I don’t really have anything useful to say, but it was a long write-up.

lifetime49erfan Fan Post
I’m moving his thoughts into this thread since it’s directly related to the topic:
I don’t understand???
Vernon Davis is one of the most talented players to be drafted into the National Football in years.
Why not make him a RUNNING BACK?????
LOOK AT Brandon Jacobs OF THE NY GIANTS???
6’4
264
AND NOT NEAR THE SPEED AND TALENT THAT VERNON DAVIS HAS
GET WHAT U PAID FOR
RUN BACK KICKS?
FILL IN RUNNING BACK
WIDE RECEIVER
PUNT RETURNS
COMMON SENSE SAYS WAKE UP NOLAN YOUR TIME IS RUNNING OUT

1st!
I’m more offended by his failures as a receiver than I am by JT’s sacks/interceptions.

SLOT
The 49ers WILL PUT VERNON DAVIS IN A WIDE RECEIVER’S SLOT besides using him mainly as a TE, the 49ers will at times line him up as a WR. When it happens, come back to my comment for an afterthought.
