Tough to cover a guy 1×1 up against the goal line with no safety help over the top. You play the under and it’s an easy loft over you, play the over and you can be burned by a quick slant like what we just saw. Let’s not release Clements just yet.

Play calling
Seems like we’ve started moving away from the run. Gave Hill a chance to get comfortable, and we’re seeing more of a Martz style of passing offense. Gore ran for that 1st down, though, but still.

that's what I hate about the Martz offense...
there are so many shifts and so much motion, that it becomes impossible to change or even adjust the play at the line. What you call is what you’re stuck with…so when you call a run up the gut, and they’re blitzing the A gap…you’re pretty much fucked.

I'm hesitant to blame the long spike on him
he was looking toward the sideline like there was confusion elsewhere – had he rushed it any more, there would have been a penalty and a clock runoff due to nobody being set…and make no mistake, the guys weren’t set
Well yeah, the team was obviously disorganized. It took him a good 10 seconds just to get 3 guys lined up in the right spots while they stood in a group looking up at the pretty clouds..

I think he's talking about the spike that should have been
but was replaced by some moron’s idea to run a dive to your second-best back from 2 1/2 yards out when 11 defenders are lined up over the center.
The call about Gore being down was right, it’s the rule, not the officials, so don’t blame that one on them. Gore lost his balance and I bet 9 times out of 10 he makes it in on that playy. He just looked tired and lost his balance. Why not spike it with 4 seconds left and take your time and call a play rather than rushing Robinson, that ones on the coaching staff. They could have won, but they deserved not to.

I need somebody to show me that from the rulebook, then, because I don’t get it. The contact happened before he was down and didn’t cause Gore to fall. How that could ever be an honest tackle is beyond me. I can understand how it could be a rulebook tackle, because rulebooks are often stupid, but I’d like to actually see the rule.

I always thought there had to be contact while the runner was down, which there wasn’t. I just find it hard to believe that the result of that guy tapping Frank on the back sent him flying 5 feet. ridiculious

I’m gonna chalk it up to karma, from the call you guys got at the end of the 2002 playoff game against my Giants. Still, this was a BS ending.
In this game,
the refs were paid to ensure an AZ win.

the Niners are my 2nd favorite NFC team (Montana’s my all-time favorite non-Giant), but that game still stings a bit.
Still, though, the ending of this game sucked, but I saw some positives on your side. Hill may not be the most talented QB, but he’s tough, and I think he can win if he’s surrounded by the right talent. Vernon Davis showed why he’s so enigmatic, with that fantastic TD catch…if he can get his head on straight, I think he can still turn into a star. And Gore is awesome. Anyway, I’m only on here to procrastinate from a paper I’m supposed to be writing, good luck with the rest of your season.

I know I’m the resident Shaun Hill supporter, but he looked a lot better than his stats and a lot better than JTO in all his games.
He made a stupid play on the shovel pass, but he came right back and almost won the game before the retarded 20 second spike, the “down by contact” call, and the hurried handoff to Robinson.
hill won me over with that no helmet run.

He didn’t look all that good, though. Pretty much every pass deeper than 7 yards had no touch and no accuracy, and any pass longer than 15 yards had to go 30 yards straight up just to get there.

The shovel pass and the pick were the only really bad moves he made. If it were JTO there would’ve been at least 7 more fumbles. I’ll shit bricks if they start JT again next week…
Yeah, if not for all the egregious turnovers and disgustingly off-target passes, he played really well!
