49ers-Rams: Arnaz Battle, Josh Morgan, Dashon Goldson OUT
It's been less than 48 hours since monday Night Football and we've got some updated injury news for this weekend's matchup with St. Louis. The 49ers will be without the services of WRs Arnaz Battle and Josh Morgan and S Dashon Goldson.
The loss of Morgan to a groin injury, coupled with Battle's continuing foot problems means even more playing time for our dynamic duo of Jason Hill and Dominique Zeigler. It looks like the wide receiver depth chart will be as follows:
Flanker: Isaac Bruce
Split End: Bryant Johnson
Slot Receiver: Arnaz Battle Jason Hill
Primary backup/4th receiver: Dominique Zeigler
It looks like Zeigler will be on the field in four receiver formations, as the primary backup to Johnson and Battle. Additionally, the 49ers signed former Stanford WR Mark Bradford. Bradford was originally signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted rookie following the 2008 draft.
The 49ers currently have four wide receivers on the active roster, so there's certainly a chance Bradford could end up being activated this Sunday. However, it also wouldn't surprise me if they just utilized Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker in some of the wide receiver roles...particularly Walker, who was a wide receiver in college.
Either way, expect more balls going Zeigler's way and given his quality hands, that could turn into a good thing. And I'd imagine Jason Hill could be a rather solid fantasy pickup for this weekend. You heard it here first!

Do you mean Jason Hill instead of Battle at slot receiver?
My current Interwebs obsession is pretty awesome. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com. It's not being updated right now. Hope for more at your own risk.

This is terrible news for my fantasy team.
Not actually because I have any of these players. Mostly just because my fantasy team is terrible.

battle
needs to saty out. i dont want anyone ever to be hurt but battle needs to stay on the bench when healthy. hill is waaaaay better. tired of seeing battle making these catches and getting tackled right away. he stinks. has a lot of knowledge but lacks the body needed to execute. he’d be a number 3 guy on any other team if that.

BOOOOOO! I loves me some Naz!
However, I do agree that he wouldn’t sniff in the top-two on a decent team with the way he’s played this year. I’ll still argue for the guy as a third receiver, though. I hate to say that it seems like, pre-injury, he’d taken a step backward this season. He was dropping balls that he would have caught automatically last season, and he doesn’t have the physical tools to make up for that. Still, I think he’s better than Bruce any day (except that one day that Bruce went OFF), and Bryant Johnson impresses me like two ounces of gold impresses King Midas.

yikes
ill give you johnson maaaaybe. but bruce? there is no way in hell he is better than bruce. bruce doesn’t drop and makes clutch plays when given to him. battle? nonexistent.

Those third down plays earlier in the year disagree.
Up until this year, Battle has actually been a pretty clutch receiver. I agree with Howie’s assessment that he wouldn’t even sniff the top-2 WRs on most teams, but he’s definitely one of the better options currently on the roster. And yes, I also agree with Howie that Battle SHOULD be better that Bruce. For whatever reason he’s slumped off this season.
Remember the reports that he may be disgruntled that he’s constantly being counted out of the race every offseason? Maybe that’s finally getting to him. If it is, then perhaps I don’t really like Battle anymore. The Arnaz I’ve grown to like is the guy that gets discounted every year but goes up to prove he’s worthy anyway. IF he is indeed giving up (which is a very big claim, and I have no merit for it), then he should ride the pine.

9ers have lacked talent
at the receiver position up til now. the only reason why battle put up ok numbers is because they didnt have anyone worth a darn to play ahead of him. now that the newbies are getting action i dont see battle making it back in the lineup in a prominent postion.

The last few years Battle has been a VERY reliable receiver. He ran good routes and caught everything thrown his way. He just never had the speed, the strength, or the separation to turn that into anything more than a decent possession option. This year he wasn’t catching nearly as consistently and his routes seemed to nowhere near as crisp. But that’s not indicative of his past play. I don’t know why he was so bad this year, but I’ll stand by his level of play in years past.

Except for a couple of games at the beginning of the year, Bruce has been virtually nonexistent this season. And it’s not for lack of playing time. They guy’s old, and he seems to already have started getting tired this season.

yea hes slowing down
bruce just seems like hes losing his speed at a rapid rate. that drops him back especially with the rookies flying around. atleast he will make the clutch catches when needed.
