Date: November 16, 2008
Time: 1:05pm PST
Location: Bill Walsh Field @ Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA

Bodoglife.com Spread: 49ers -7; Over/Under 43.5; Money Line: 49ers -275, Rams +235 - 49ers win, but I'm torn as to whether they cover.  I'd say take the under and 49ers to cover.

Week 11 Prediction Contest - Remember that if you don't get predictions in for the morning games you can still enter predictions for later games and get credit.  You get credit for any predictions entered by kickoff of the given game.  So, if you forget today, you can still predict the MNF game.

Injuries
49ers: Probable - RB Frank Gore; Questionable - FS Mark Roman; Doubtful - OT Barry Sims, TE Delanie Walker; Out - S Dashon Goldson, WR Josh Morgan, WR Arnaz Battle

Rams: Probable - WR Derek Stanley, DT Adam Carriker, QB Trent Green, RB Antonio Pittman; Questionable - OT John Greco; Out - LB Chris Draft, CB Tye Hill, RB Steven Jackson, DE Eric Moore

I'm opening this up early for use as a morning game thread, so go to town with that.  Make sure and check out today's Golden Nuggets and and Florida Danny's statistical preview comparing Steven Jackson and Frank Gore.

As for our 49ers, it's hard to know what to take from the game today.  They're favored by a touchdown, so a win should be expected.  Of course, given the performances over the last two months, a win is something none of us have always come to expect.  So what we're looking for here is a quality performance against what most would consider an inferior opponent.  Fewer turnovers on offense, more pressure on defense and a solid performance all around.  I'm not sure yet if you want to hold your breath for that.  Here's hoping for something solid.

GO NINERS!

GO NINERS!

re: Golden Nuggets

I’ve gotta say that the Al Davis/Bill Walsh column was a bit ridiculous. OK, Al Davis was certainly influential on the racial integration front, sure, but that movement was happening across all the sports. In terms of ongoing influence, their respective impacts on the way teams operate these days, however, there’s simply no comparison. There’s simply no team in the league that was not influenced by Walsh’s “method for planning a game”—either because they adopted his techniques, or because they developed their own in response to other teams that had adopted his techniques.
Here’s hoping that Singletary benefited as much from his chats with Walsh as he claims he did.
GO NINERS indeed!

The story appeared on at least three sites

So I figured I’d post it, regardless of bias/stupidity. Interesting read nonetheless, even if I don’t really agree with the final sentiments good points are made for both. I’ve gotta say, as far as impact Bill Walsh > Davis. For sure.

ha anybody see Kwame Harris today? As bad as our o-line has been, I’m still glad the penalty machine is gone.

Yeah

I cant believe I was stoked for that guy at one point.

by James Brady on Nov 16, 2008 11:10 AM PST up reply actions

I think I heard last week that he was leading the league in sacks allowed and false starts. Of course, I might have just pretended I heard that and thought it was real because it is realistic… but I’m almost positive that I did actually hear it.

I'm almost positive

that I’m sure that you’re right even though I’m slightly not positive that you did in fact actually here it and may just be saying it which in turn leads to me just thinking it because it does in fact, sound realistic.

If

If you get 35 points in the first half and you’ve kept the other team to three field goals, then you can get conservative and wind down the clock. But the Rams are sniffing those handoffs to Gore, so maybe a play action or two with some consequences on first down to keep them honest.

well if the score doesn't change

my raw score for this game will be 18. Doubt that’s good enough to win, but you never know. GB-CHI, raw score 34, I don’t think so. TB-MIN raw score is 8, should get me on the board. And if things in Jax don’t change, raw score will be 14, there’s a chance.
