Blogging The Boys Q & A

EDITOR'S NOTE 2:45PM: Welcome to Brandon from Blogging the Boys.  And as always, if you want to answer questions from the Cowboys fans, my FanPost is up at Blogging the Boys.

Hey, this is Brandon W from Blogging The Boys, the SB Nation Dallas Cowboys blog. I'm here to answer any questions you might have about the Cowboys and the upcoming matchup on Sunday.

The Cowboys are looking to continue pulling the season out of the brink with their next two games, both against NFC West opponents. They need to know that these are games they have to win to make a brutal December schedule easier to navigate, although all games from this point out are crucial.

On the bad news for us front, rookie running back Felix Jones has been placed on injured reserve with a torn ligament in his foot. Felix was a huge boost for this team and really added a speed element that had not been there in a long time.

Tony Romo seemed to be back to his old, jovial self and that could be dangerous against future opponents. Romo with confidence is a scary, scary thing for any defense.

Feel free to ask anything about the Cowboys or the game and I will answer to the best of my ability.

ok

kinda random but here goes:

Back in the 90’s there was a pretty heated rivalry between the Niners and the Cowboys. With both teams’ level of success dropping off considerably in the early 2000’s, I feel like a lot of that bad blood and hatred has really dissipated. Obviously the T.O. stepping on the star incident is behind us, considering he’s on your side now.

So my question is this – was there ever a time when Cowboy fans looked at the Niners with total disdain, the way I (and I imagine a lot of us) looked at the Cowboys? And given how utterly crappy the Niners are now, has that feeling gone away? Are we just another team now, or would it still feel especially good to beat us?

Still defending Rich Aurilia, and the Niners' classic unis

I can only speak for myself on this....

I never looked upon the Niners with hate or disdain they way I would say…..the Eagles. However, the Cowboys and 49ers played in three straight NFC Championships so it became more of an edginess or wariness. They were our biggest threat so I hated to see them win because that meant we would have to play them again in the playoffs. The Cowboys 70’s dynasty ended with a catch in the back of a San Francisco endzone. The 49ers were the ying to our yang, especially in the type of game they played. Then when the Cowboys started to decline in the late Nineties it seemed like the 49ers started to really whoop up on us, and then there was the drubbing we took from T.O. at home. That was embarrassing.

As far as now goes…..it just doesn’t feel the same. I am actually going to the game and I don’t think I can get as nervous or worked up as I would have in 1995. And honestly, I would actually like it if San Fran started to come along again and become a big competitor in the NFC, because that means less of a chance for the Giants or Eagles to do anything.

Is Wade Phillips’ job in danger?

Not anytime soon.

Jerry Jones has NEVER fired any coach in the middle of a season. Now, if the Cowboys fall on their face and go 8-8 and miss the playoffs, I don’t see Wade having a job in the spring as Cowboys head coach. But not anytime during the season.

You don't think?

You don’t think that even if you guys make the playoffs, a first round exit will lead to Phillips getting canned? Seems to me like Jerry Jones wants a winner from this team with a new stadium on the way.

BTW, coming from the Jersey area, I’m actually rooting for the Cowboys (outside of this game) this season. I can’t stand the freakin Eagles or Giants!

It's tought to say what would happen after a first round exit....

But I think if that happens, it’ll have the same effect on this team as not even making the playoffs. The problem with that is….who do you hire? Supposedly Jason Garrett is coach-in-waiting but is he really the answer after what seems to be a sophomore slump as OC. And I think you can forget about Bill Cowher.

No playoffs: he’s gone.
1st round exit: 65% gone.

Do you see the 49ers the same now

As you did at the beginning of the season? Obviously you cant follow every team but surely you’ve seen the improvements/changes. Has your view changed come week 12?

by Ninjames on Nov 20, 2008 6:16 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Definitely.

I actually was hoping Mike Singletary would be selected as the Cowboys’ coach last offseason, although I knew that was a long shot. I have such tremendous respect for him as a player and person you almost knew that he can only have a positive effect on the team he coaches. So with that in mind, any team that believes in it’s coach and it’s system and therefore is confident in itself is extremely dangerous. So I am wary of this game for that reason.

However, I don’t think the Cowboys will have any trouble with San Francisco if they play smart and execute. It’s sad actually because before last season it almost seemed like the 49ers were poised to break out and dominate some teams. It just didn’t happen.

T.O.

I don’t know how many he has dropped this year but I think last year it was around 27. Are cowboys fans tired of TO dropping passes and then complaining that he doesn’t get the ball enough? Do you think that’s why he isn’t getting it these days?

No...

None of our receivers (other than Jason Witten) have good numbers. It’s just the story of how our season has gone, and three games without Romo didn’t help at all.

T.O. is starting to get open again and I think he is poised for a huge game. Last game, the Redskins had LaRon Landry playing about 25-30 yards back every single down to eliminate the big plays. That has something to do with it as well.

Roy Williams

Last week was Roy Williams’s first game with Romo running the offense. Is it possible we’ll see more chemistry this week between the two? Wiliams hasn’t done a whole lot of much since coming aboard. Thoughts?
