Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

Golden Nuggets: You'd stick with the call? Really? ...Why?

The headline is (very obviously, hopefully) in reference to Singletary saying he's stick with the call on the Niner's final play of Sunday's loss to Miami. Regardless of what's been said about miscommunication, I'm sorry but your "best blocking tight end ever in the history of life, the universe and everything" (exaggerated quote) needs to be in on a play where you cannot afford any kind of sack, especially when Sims is playing. I know the guy didn't do a terrible job but you need to give your team the best chance of success every chance you get. Now that my venting is done (in actuality the venting took place right after the game. It hurt but was pretty easy to get over. This team is good, better than its record, and I know this.) I'll go ahead and give you some links to browse, read, etc. Enjoy.

Here's an article about Singletary. Yep, another one. I agree with part though, where he says that the Yorks should make some sort of announcement, letting us know that Singletary will be back next season. They need to act. (SFGate.com)

Singletary sticks by Martz's call at the end of the game. Honestly, I don't think he does, I just think he's afraid of hurting his feelings. (SFGate.com)

Did the loss hurt Singletary's chances? I'm not sure but one thing to note is that Singletary said that he wouldn't go through an interview process. Then he went back and said he would... A little scared of scaring the owners, maybe? I don't know what to make of it. (SFGate.com)

The only time the offensive line actually gave something huge up was... you guessed it, on the final play. Also to note is that Joe Staley is a beast, Vernon Davis is getting too much credit, not for lack of action but lack of playing time, Barry Sims did commendable until the final play, and Bajema brings something to the team. (PressDemocrat.com)

Yorks have more to prove than Singletary. I really dislike the Yorks and I don't feel we're going to get very far with them owning the team. I don't know, Jed has a lot to prove to me. (MercuryNews.com)

Here's a post-game rant of sorts. (MVN.com)

This article states that the next game, against the Rams, is the most important game for Singletary. I'm not sure I'm with that, but I can see the point that if we lose to the Rams its gotta be something with the coaching. (MercuryNews.com)

Up next is the Rams. Hmmm.. (SFGate.com)

Here's some highlights of Shaun Hill. I'm really starting to like this guy. I hope he starts next season, honestly. (And yes. I AM a fan of his dropback.) (NFL.com)

This week's Wrap Up from Eric Davis. (49ers.com)

And yesterday's Singletary's Notebook. (49ers.com)

This week's Team Issued--Vernon Davis on the Dolphins. (49ers.com)

I'm really happy with our receivers. I think we're set, we've got what it takes with that position. From the young guys to Bruuuuuuce. (Scout.com)

Here's a comparison of J.T. O'Sullivan and Shaun Hill. (PressDemocrat.com)

That's all for now. Sorry for not getting it up sooner, guys. I've had a rough couple of days. Will update definitely.

Awarding stinky game balls.

Twice this year the Niners lost games at the end because of offensive mind miscues. Certainly the Arizona loss is Martz’s. The loss at Miami probably belongs more to Martz than to Singletary. Wasted timeouts (a problem early in the season) and game-ending failures were Martz’s MO in St. Louis, so I guess that screwups go along with his offense.

Even with that, those are things that I have confidence that Singletary can fix. What did Singletary do with the “booth problem” that Nolan always had? He put a retired official in the booth. I bet that he can put his mark on the offense too. Martz has already backed off his trademarked stuff. I would like to see an evolution to his offense next year, maybe with another tackle and a speedburner at wideout. And maybe the Niners need a good tech guy fixing their helmet headphones.

Kawakami’s article on Singletary is right on the mark. Please, York Family, do not blow this.

Official.

Didn’t Maiocco or Barrows write something a few weeks back explaining that the official was actually added by Nolan? Maybe my memory fails me here.

official

I thought I’d read Singletary had done it, but maybe I’m wrong. Or maybe Nolan initiated it and Singletary wrapped it up?

The more I think about it...

… the more I think I’m wrong. I’m too lazy to search Maiocco’s archives though, as that search feature blows.

search feature

Speaking of which…thoughts on the Niners Nation search feature on the top right? Also, if you go to sbnation.com, the search feature has been added to the top of the page to search all the blogs right away (and save a step or two from our search function).

To be honest.

I haven’t used the new SBNation search very much. I remember the old one being pretty good, though.

I think the person who probably has the most use of the search feature is HTS. He’s all over that feature.

good managers

A good manager will always support his/her employee in public, regardless of the failure. It’s unsurprising that Singletary isn’t criticizing Martz in the media because the coach is a good manager.

Truth has a well-known liberal bias.

Whats the saying?

“Praise in public, discipline in private”?
