Is it a Good Season and what Ifs?
*First let me say; never get up from the bar with 8 minutes to go even if your team looked worse than the St. Louis Rams; I was shocked to find out it was17-16 when I plopped my butt on the couch and could feel my sadden spirit beginning to make the rest of my day bad but then the score flashed across while I was watching the beginning of the redskins and I was jumpin for joy!!!! Okay sorry.....back to the post
I was trying to to dig deep into past fanpost or post in general from this site to see what the consensus was on what would be considered a good season. I will admit I got a little tired of searching and decided to just post a blog.
If the 49ers win next sunday against the deadskins/foreskins(va's team) then that leaves us with a record of 7-9. And there is a part of me that is sastified with that; I joke all the time with the many cowboy fan's here in Richmond, Va that us going 8-8 is a good season and them going 10-6 is an awful season. I honestly feel that way ;while I would obviously rather be in the playoffs this year I can't help but be feeling pretty good after seeing where we came from last year and almost ended up there again this year 7-9 isn't bad for us; heck 6-10 is almost just as good.
How many games did us 49er fans say would be good enough for us? I think i recall many people saying if we won 2 more games than we did last year that Mike Nolan's job might be safe(so Coach Sings should be).
What IF's: What if that ref had not made that call against the cardinals a few weeks ago? We would going into the last week of the season with a shot at winning the division
What if Mike Nolan were still the coach? I imagine we would be still stuck at 2 games won but you never know maybe the team started to gell at the right time, the 49ers have been known to gather momentum at the end of seasons.
What if Alex Smith hadn't got reinjured? Lets remember he was listed as the 2nd string QB and Shaun hill was 3rd. The 49ers would be going into next season not knowing who our starter is AGAIN or would we? Maybe Smith would get it together..(Hill should have it by now even if we lose next week).
What if we never signed Issac Bruce? I recall many people saying the bruce signing was a waste of time and that he would do nothing but help coach the younger receivers. Now that may be the case on some level still but he by far has been our best receiver and I don't see us winning any of the last 4 games without him..am I wrong?
well those are my thoughts for now and as Al Gore would say in one of the funniest episodes of South park I have ever seen....

I voted for 7-9 as a good season
To be honest, I don’t think our team is good enough to do any better – they are so inconsistent, play rubbish vs Buffalo, good vs Jets, good vs Miami, rubbish vs Rams. At the beginning of the season I voted 8-8 for the team but they have had a tough schedule and fans are always optimistic prior to a season starting.
However, I must admit I am worried for next year if we do go 7-9. Remember the last time we finished 7-9? Everybody fancied us for the division title following year, and that pressure was undoubtedly one of the reasons we were so awful.
Also, our schedule for next season is just as tough. We have the two South divisions, and if they remain as good as this year, it will be hard.

Eh...
I feel that 7-9 is a very good season for us under the circumstances, but I want to see this team carry what they’re doing right now into next year…
I don’t want us to win next week, then drop 3 of 4 to start the season next year. I feel that if Singletary stays at the helm we’re gonna be a very dangerous team…
Does anyone really see the Hawks or the Rams as a threat next year? I feel we’re better than the Cards right now, so I’d put us right in the thick of the division race in 2009…

10 + Wins
I feel like we could have been a good playoff team if a few things went differently.
Here’s how I see some of the games we could have won.
It felt like we should have won he first cardinals game, but we had too many turnovers.
When we played the Eagles we led by 9 in the 4th but JTO coughed up the ball alot & the eagles scored 23 4th quarter points.
In the second game VS Arizona, If the defender didn’t trip up gore just a bit we coulda got the W.
If the hill didn’t get sacked near the end of the second quarter knocking the 9ers out of field goal range VS Miami, the 9ers would have kicked a field goal, & would have only had to kick a field goal to beat the Phins at the end.
Overall, we seem to be doing better under Singletary . It feels like we were ripped off from a 11-5 season. we only need a few more components Like an O-Lineman (Right Tackle) & big run stopping & pass rushing D lineman to occupy to opposing O-Linemen (Like A-Haynesworth). The secondary seems a little to weak & we need a slight DB upgrade
Nate Clements, Alex Smith, & a few others are overpaid & need to take a pay cut.
all we need is a little bit help in Free Agency/The Draft, & we are a solid NFC team next year.

It became better...
after the 49ers won and the Cowboys didn’t make the playoffs.
