December 27 Bowl Games Open Thread
Fooch's Note: It's Emerald Bowl time. Don't forget to get your predictions in for tomorrow and Monday.
_____________________________________________
We've got 3 bowl games going on today, including the California Golden Bears. I just thought to put this up so if you're watching the games today, feel free to throw out your thoughts about the youngsters on the field today
West Virginia's all-everything QB Pat White just launched a beautiful 44 yard touchdown pass to Alric Arnett in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. White is an option QB with an impressive arm. He looks like he could be a much more athletic version of Michael Robinson (just to make a comparison). Does anybody think he can make it as a QB in the NFL? He's got a solid arm and great athleticism, but he seems like he might end up like Tim Tebow, being converted to some other position. We'll see.
Oh and if you're not watching it, I highly recommend flipping on the Meineke Car Care Bowl. It's sitting at 14-14 with almost 5 minutes left in the first quarter. UNC just ran an end around with WR T.J. Yates who then threw a nice little pass to a wide open Hakeem Nicks. Nicks nicely broke a couple tackles and currently has 139 yards on 2 touchdown receptions. Not too shabby. Fooch's Note: Just before posting this West Virginia scored again with 2:35 to go in the first quarter and it's 21-14. Ridiculous.
So, enjoy your day of college football. All games are on ESPN, running consecutively in the following order. The links are to the SB Nation blog for the respective team.
Meineke Car Care Bowl: West Virginia vs. North Carolina
Champs Sports Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Florida State
Emerald Bowl: Miami, Fl vs. California
I'm definitely watching the Emerald Bowl and I'm guessing a few of you out there might actually be going to the game. If so, have fun. And don't forget to get your Week 17 predictions in before tomorrow morning.

WV-UNC
And UNC just returned the subsequent kick off to midfield. Big time back and forth action.

Man.
I wish I knew anything about college football. I’ve never been into it, and every year I want to start watching it but I don’t know who to root for/where to start.

BOOOO ACC!
I have a bit of a bias though.
Speaking of finding a team, earlier in the year StrictlyFootball was looking for a college football team to cheer for and it looks like the vote settled on Fresno State (who lost their bowl game to Colorado State).

Good luck. I know I shouldn’t be rooting for Cal, but it’s pretty easy when you look at it as Pac 10 vs. ACC.
As I write, TD!

UNC
Is looking very good. Yates is solid, and watch the highlight reels to see Nicks have a one-handed behind the back try-to-pass-it-between-his-legs first down. Beautiful!

West Virginia 31 - UNC 30
Pat White became the first college football player EVER to go 4-0 in bowl games as a starting QB. And he actually threw for a career high 332 yards. Not too shabby for a career finale.

Yeah
But UNC had several key turnovers that made a big difference in the outcome of the game. White played very well, but UNC outplayed WVU with the exception of the turnovers (I know that seems counter-intuitive, but the fumble wasn’t because of poor ball control, rather him getting bent nearly in half and probably losing concentration due to pain).

Dear Jahvid Best,
Please do everything possible to ensure that you are a member of the San Francisco 49ers after you graduate.
Thanks.

You're breaking my heart Fooch
I go to UNC and would much prefer us to draft Hakeem Nicks (if he forgoes his Senior season) or our other WR Brandon Tate (who tore his ACL mid-season and didn’t play in the bowl) who is blazing fast and a the ACC all-time kick return leader as well as a darn good wideout. Pat White did impress me though, and 4-0 is impressive. I wonder if he could be a QB at the next level, probably too small to convert to RB but WR could work.
