San Francisco 49ers vs. Washington Redskins Second Half Thread

49ers_logo_medium  @  Redskins_icon_medium

After a great start to the game, that half turned hideous rather quickly.  Both 49ers starting safeties are out of the game, although losing Roman might not be the worst thing in the world.  The offense was in sync early but struggled in the second quarter.  Down 10 at the half, let's hope Coach Singletary has something to get this team going in the second half.  It'd really be nice to finish with a win.  Let's hope for a little new thread mojo.

GO NINERS!

Seriously

Tony Romo might be locking up the choker label. He’s a very solid QB but struggles in late season/postseason big games.

Adrian Peterson commercial

You see Peterson short arm the pass when competing against those little kids? If I was him in that, my competitive juices would kick in and I’d be launching the passes.

Shaun Hill - 3rd quarter

At the end of the first half Pitts mentioned Shaun Hill wasn’t so hot in the 3rd quarter. I looked up his numbers and he hit the nail on the head. This season in the third quarter, Hill is 32/57 (56.1%, his lowest by quarter) for 296 yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs and a QB rating of 48.6. His next worst QB rating by quarter is in the 2nd quarter, which is 95.0. Interesting

Shaun Hill not comfortable?

Boselli was talking about them bringing pressure and smelling blood, but the offensive line and running back picked up the blitz really well and allowed Hill to step up and throw. Bad throw, but not because of the pressure in my opinion

Shaun Hill isn't the answer

I like Shaun Hill, but he just doesn’t seem to have the tools to be anything more than a so-so quarterback. He isn’t the kind of guy who can lead a franchise. I’m not a big fan of handing Matt Cassella bunch of money, I think we need a young QB working under him next year. Who should we have our eye on?

Young to Rice. Touchdown.

by Call It The Throw on Dec 28, 2008 3:08 PM PST up reply actions

gotcha

That’s been my philosophy since Hill took over. You’ve got Hill signed for 2 more years at a relatively inexpensive deal for a starting QB. Draft someone in the 3rd or 4th round, let him sit in ’09 and work his way up after that. Plenty of time.

Niners Nation - The premier 49ers blog on the Internet!

by David Fucillo on Dec 28, 2008 3:09 PM PST up reply actions

With a win today

an active off-season, and a strong draft (with a young QB), I would officially go into next season optimistic. Especially considering how TERRIBLE the NFC West is.

Young to Rice. Touchdown.

by Call It The Throw on Dec 28, 2008 3:11 PM PST up reply actions

Maybe McNabb?

I’m not really a fan of any other free agents. I don’t want to pick up Cassel since he has two All Pro receivers. That would help any QB.

McNabb may not be bad, but the way he’s played after he was benched, I don’t think they can let him go. I’d rather draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd, and let Hill operate for a year.

Jets-Dolphins

And Favre just threw an INT as they were driving into Dolphins territory with 5 minutes left.

play-call

Why not call a quick run to get the first down? If everyone knows it’s a run you can get a spike in less than the normal 18 seconds it usually takes.

I think they can go down the middle one more time, then TO.

Hill

Maiocco was right when he brought up “How good would Hill be in Dallas?” Maiocco thought he’d be better (and so do I).

by RobbieS on Dec 28, 2008 4:08 PM PST reply actions

Sorry

Shaun. Being better than Romo.

You think he'd be better?

Niners Nation - The premier 49ers blog on the Internet!

by David Fucillo on Dec 28, 2008 4:09 PM PST up reply actions

Well

At least as good. He may not have the pure physical tools, but he sure as hell wouldn’t choke as much. What do you think Dallas wants more at this point?

Hill can move around and create. He can’t launch it, but I’d take his tough situation consistency over Romo’s…not…tough situation consistency.

by RobbieS on Dec 28, 2008 4:11 PM PST up reply actions

Oh sure

Absolutely. Just a little fun speculating. But you don’t think he’d have a legit shot there? Dinkin and dunkin to (alleged) offensive beasts?

Maiocco brings this up pretty consistently on Fitz and Brooks.

by RobbieS on Dec 28, 2008 4:14 PM PST up reply actions

Maiocco on Fitz and Brooks..

Is so different on Ralph and Tom. That’s an absurd comparison. Hill has never started in a playoff game. The Cowboys are a team with a constant bulleye on it’s back, and has tougher competition in it’s own division. Fitz and Brooks are the 2 biggest idiots on the radio too.

by drummer on Dec 28, 2008 4:17 PM PST up reply actions

I don’t mind Fitz and Brooks too much. I actually only listen for when Maiocco comes on :D

While I readily concede many points on Hill, what about Romo? What has starting playoff games done for him? Besides have the fun of blowing games?

by RobbieS on Dec 28, 2008 4:20 PM PST up reply actions

He gets them there first..

and it’s easier to judge his playoff career, because he has one to begin with.

by drummer on Dec 28, 2008 4:22 PM PST up reply actions

Hill would have been smoked..

If he was playing against Philly today.
