49ers 24 - Jets 14: My good luck jersey

Over Thanksgiving I was up in northern Washington visiting the folks and I ventured out on Black Friday to an outlet mall.  By the end of the day I'd wandered all around and not really found much to buy.  And then I stumbled across the Reebok store.  While wandering around inside I noticed a whole assortment of jerseys.  At first I came across a throwback Randall Cunningham jersey that I had to have.  Given his days at UNLV it seemed appropriate even if it was an old Eagles jersey.

As I was about to pay, I noticed the sign indicating ALL NFL apparel was two for the price of one.  A short search later and I came across a Patrick Willis jersey.  Although I really want to get the throwback version, I was more than happy to get the jersey you see below.  After all, Willis is Willis.

I own multiple 49ers jerseys, including Montana, Alex Smith and even Deion Sanders (don't ask).  However, none has brought consistent good fortune on game day.  For the near future, that is no longer an issue.  I wore the jersey last week and the 49ers rolled out the W in Buffalo.  Naturally I was going to wear it again this week.  And once again the 49ers won.  Suffice to say, I've got myself a new game day jersey for the foreseeable future.

I know we all have our little superstitions on game day.  Sports is one area where little eccentricities are not only accepted, but expected.  Was there anything you found yourself wearing or doing against the Bills that you decided to carry over to the Jets game?

wash that jersey until after the playoffs!!

Truth has a well-known liberal bias.

jersey

For argument’s sake, say the 49ers win their last 3 games. Do I leave the jersey unwashed through the offseason? I’ve only worn it on game days (and it’s already taken), so I suppose if I just wore it for the games, leaving it unwashed wouldn’t be as big a deal, would it? If it gets wins I’ll do whatever it takes.

Yes

It is perfectly okay for superstition to dictate things in your life like hygiene. ;)

Actually I have done the same before. I think it is perfectly okay to not wash the jersey until they lose even if it is next season. We should only be so lucky. I mean you aren’t wearing it all the time or anything, just on gameday.

fooch...3 things...

1) i’m pretty anti-jersey, so i wear vintage niner t-shirts instead…a red one circa 1990 for home games and a white one (with red short sleeves) circa 1982 for road games. the road shirt is a commemorative t-shirt from SB XVI.

2) i found the road t-shirt in 2003 at a shop in atlanta, and it has been incredibly unlucky…i’ve missed 5 of the niners 10 road wins since then, so i didn’t witness a niner road win while wearing that shirt until the last road game of 2005…that’s right, the shirt started 0-21. in total, the niners are 5-32 on the road when i watch the game (and therefore am wearing the shirt), but 5-4 on the road when i miss the game (and therefore am not wearing the shirt).

3) there’s no doubt what has been lucky for the niners the past two weeks…no joe starkey on the KNBR play-by-play (at least not 100% of the game)

Similar Superstition

I have a jersey too, a Montana throw-back that I got the day before the bills game.

I used to be a lucky hat person, but i ripped my most recent one slamming it into the ground at the end of the cardinals MNF game.

2-0, this jersey will wear stains like a badge of honor.

Blind devotion.
