There is not much going on in 49er land, but a few things have been mentioned recently.  Many of you probably already know this, but what the heck.

First, Ted Tollner is going to be the new QB coach, as was speculated:

He will also have the title Assistant to the HC.

Second, Jared Allen wants to play for the 49ers next year, although he will almost certainly have the franchise tag placed on him:

Maybe someone could fill me in, but isn't Allen suited more for a 4-3 than a 3-4?  Is he just good enough that he would be able to hold his own in either scheme?

Disclaimer: If someone has already posted this news elsewhere, my apologies.  I did not see it and I'm an idiot.  This disclaimer should just be my signature, it would save time and cover my ass in the future.

The Tollner thing is vaguely puzzling to me
Isn't Singletary the Assistant to the HC? Not that you can't have more than one, but it seemed sort of like a position of esteem given as a great compliment and lare endorsement of Singletary's abilities... a guy with a bright future, well respected, better than just a DC, grooming to be a HC...

Tollner can't possibly fit that kind of description... almost feels like an insult to Singletary to me.

Almost. I said almost.

So what, then? Is Tollner the Offensive Assistant to the HC, and Singletary is the Defensive Assistant to the HC?

Is this something they had to do in order to get him to settle for a QB Coach job?

Of all people, why not Martz?

Of course it's probably not a big deal and I'm just making something out of nothing, but it seemed awfully strange to me. Tollner?

I keep reliving the moment when Steve Young almost fell down. Over and over.

Agreed
It seems a bit weird to me too.  I think your idea of Offensive Assistant and Defensive Assistant makes sense, but the choice of Tollner specifically is still a bit strange.
We are not who I thought we were.
