Niners going after Jason Taylor (dolphins)

This just in...

"Jason Taylor and the Dolphins have "decided to part ways" this offseason. Both sides have agreed a trade is for the best, and Taylor has already left the Miami area to prepare for Dancing with the Stars. There were rumors about Green Bay's interest Saturday, although that has proven premature. Miami can probably pick up a couple of solid draft picks for Taylor, 33."

Isnt this exactly what the niners need?

No.
We are not who I thought we were.

Besides the fact that he is a 4-3 end, and the Dolphins are gonna get rid of him because they are going to the 3-4. This sentence sums up why we wouldn't want him...

Miami can probably pick up a couple of solid draft picks for Taylor, 33.

OLB?
i think he could do it but i agree he doesnt fit

Espn's bottom line just said Bill said he is going to be a dolphin or retire

for the
price (dollars AND draft picks) not worth it at all.  dont even know if he'd be any better at LB than andre carter was.  plus lawson has a lock on one olb spot with ulbrich and TBC fighting for the other. (maybe moore could even bump to the outside?) linebacker isnt where we should be concentrating now.  a couple o-linemen and another receiver are far more important.

OLB
ulbrich will be on the inside

Harralsen and TBC will compete....we havent seen jay moore yet either

we might be able to get groves with one of our first two picks to play OLB.... role those dice one more time

forgot about parys
thanks for reminding me.  seems like we have A LOT of depth at lb now.  lawson, thomas, willis, tbc, haralson, ulbrich, b. moore, j. moore.   hopefully tbc and lawson can provide the pass rush.

not worth it
i'm somewhat a dolphin fan, but a niner fan first, and as good as taylor is, he wouldnt be worth it

it would cost alot in both picks and dollars like sam23 said

beside we have have two solid DE's in Smith and Douglas (douglas isnt great but does a solid enough job)
and in olb we have lawson and banta-cain, one who was a high draft pick and has shown skills and the other a solid pass rusher

i like taylor, just not in a niner uniform

douglas

true, but
mcdonald looked good. maybe he meant mcdonald.  cohen will get some time at end too i assume.  anybody think the browns could make alan branch available now that they just traded for two big dts?  branch could be a good run nose tackle in our 3-4 and eat up space.  kinda wanted to see the niners draft him in the 2nd round last year.  maybe a 4th rounder or one of the LBs for branch?  with sopoagna and franklin theyd be a solid rotation at dt.

sopoagna
could also move to de a little more.

Sopoago
I just read an article about the Smith signing in the Sac. Bee and Ratto think sopoago will move to left DE.
Tom will never be as cool as Joe

Sopoaga
Sopoagna is an italian dish made with wide, flat noodles and a lot of meat, and Sopoago is Spanish for Sopoaga.
I keep reliving the moment when Steve Young almost fell down... over and over....

so
itll be him and smith at de, with franklin in the middle for the most part?  thats pretty stout against the run but im not sure how much push theyll get in the pass rush.  tbc and lawson will have to be huge.  and franklin doesnt seem to have much endurance, is cohen gonna get some reps there or are they going to sing another nose tackle?

Rotation
I think the 49ers are going to be doing a lot of rotating along the line.  There is not a single person that is going to play every snap along the line during a game except Justin Smith.  Sopoaga will probably rotate between DE and NT, to give Franklin a breather inside.  Cohen will likely play DE, but could probably play inside when the 49ers go four linemen (passing situations).

Fields, Oliver, and Ellison will all be competing for time along the line as well, with Fields being the only other person that could play inside and outside.

forgot about
oliver, hows his rehab going?

by sam23 on Mar 3, 2008 11:38 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

I can't recall for sure...
... but I seem to remember reading that anyone that was hurt last year should be ready in time for OTAs, at the latest.

oliver
looked pretty good in the little we have seen from him.  seems like we will have great depth in the front 7. DL (smith, franklin, isaac, mcdonald, cohen, fields, oliver)  LB (lawson, willis, thomas, TBC, haralson, ulbrich, moore, moore, roderick green?) that bodes well for the system of constant rotation nolan employs.  i think lawson, willis, and smith are the only ones that will be on the field most of the game.  most of the rest of those guys are solid contributors, i hope the rotating scheme helps, rather than hinders them.

Branch
The Cardinals drafted Branch not the Browns.
Here's to hoping Albert Hanyesworth stomps on Alex Smith's head.

Branch

by Qbgetter13 on Mar 2, 2008 5:41 PM PST   0 recs

youre right
i have no idea what i was thinking.  i think i got confused thinking the cardinals signed ted washington and the browns got branch last year.
