New Niners Article on ESPN

Here is a link to an article about Nolan on espn.com.  I have a question in response to this article.  What do the 49ers need to do in order for Nolan to keep his job?  Is it a certain number of wins, a playoff birth, win the division, or just overall level of play?

Good read.
Solid piece, and encouraging as well. But there was one quote that stood out to me in a negative way (emphasis added by me):

"Alex is a talented guy and he was steadily improving, and then the 12 healthy starts that he had, he was 7-5," Nolan said. "I don't want to get lost in his injury games, although I was disappointed in the way he handled them, but hopefully that is a learning process for him."

Why can't Nolan just let this go, at least in the press? Whether he's right or wrong, whether Alex Smith agrees with him or not, why not just make some bland, ambiguous statement about moving on, and then let it go? It's like he has to get the last word or something.

It seems to me that once again -- just like with his game management skills -- Mike Nolan is simply incapable of learning from his previous mistakes.

You know...
I'm a pretty big Nolan supporter, but I have to agree.  At this point he's just being petty and immature in regards to that entire situation with Smith.
We are not who I thought we were.

9 WINS
I say the 9ers need to win 9 games in order for Nolan to keep his job.  Anything less then that and he deserves to be fired.  Teams have been turned around in much shorter tim frames.  He has had more then a fair chance to prove his worth.  No more moral victories or moving in the right direction he needs to put up this year or get back to being a coordinator some where.
The 07 SPYtriots would be 13 point DOGS vs the 89 NINERS,,,and SF would still cover by 10 points!!!
