My 49er Draft Picks
Here are my choices for who the 49ers should draft (if of course, they are available).
29 James Hardy, WR, Indiana, 6-6 220
39 Calais Campbell, DE, Miami, 6-8 280
75 John Greco, OT, Toledo, 6-5 320
107 Frank Okam, DT, Texas, 6-5 320
174 Dwight Lowery, CB, San Jose St, 6-1 185
214 Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon, 6-4 205
I think this is pretty realistic, based on the mock drafts i've seen. I'm less sure about the 29th and 39th pick and would prefer trading down.
Greco would make a nice pairing with Staley at the tackles.
Okam has big upside (not sure why he's projected so low)
Lowery is a stud (can play CB and FS)
Dixon is a game changer (if his game can translate to the pros)
What do you all think?

WRs?
I know people think we need wide receivers, but I’ll be honest, I really don’t wanna take a wide receiver unless a guy like Limas Sweed drops. He’s at least proven himself at a pretty high level. I’d MUCH prefer we go some combination of offensive line, defensive line, outside linebacker with those first two picks.

I don't like it at all.
Especially the first two picks.

hardy
Aside from mock drafts, is there any reason you see them going with Hardy over an offensive lineman or outside linebacker? Although Kiper’s recent mock has us taking Malcolm Kelly, so WR certainly wouldn’t be a surprise.

Wr's
I only want to see the 9ers take a WR if its Hawkins in the 4th or Cam Colvin in the 7th.

Well...
Our WRs are absolutely horrible. Bryant Johnson may be a good one, but we need weapons. Hardy is 6-5 220 and runs a 4.5/40. At this point, i’d be happy with Sweed, Kelly, and maybe even DeSean Jackson. We need to SCORE POINTS people! Give Alex Smith someone to throw the ball to.

Couldn't agree more.
DeSean would have immediatly added a new dimension to our team in special teams as well as WR. Dude truely believes he can change a game in one play if he touches the ball. I don’t feel any of our players can do that currently.

DeSean could also be killed on any given play.
I doubt he stays healthy at 165lbs.

WR's
I really can’t see us taking any WR’s today. Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see where one fits.

I like Balmer
I wanted Campbell, but didn’t think Balmer would fall to us. So i’m pleasantly surprised with the pick! Now we’re going WR for the 39th pick.

Embarassed
Besides Balmer who has the potential to be a bust and Reggie Davis, the niners reached for every pick including no.7 Larry Grant whom nobody showed as being drafted. The whole draft was about VALUE, and Reggie Davis was the only value for S.F. Everyone else could have been picked up a couple rounds later or as a free agent. Also nice to see they shored up the weak wide recieving corp.

Yeah, because there were a lot of good WR options in this draft. This class of wideouts was weak and there was little likelihood that any would help this team immediately.

Not so much
You’re right about lack of quality WR this year, plus add in teams are scared of 1st WR money, but I feel Desean would have changed team day one in Special Teams. See my above comment :).

Devin Hester
I think he’s proved that it’s possible for a special teams player to warrant a 2nd Round pick. I’m not saying Jackson with be anywhere near as good as Hester but I’m just saying it’s possible.

True
If we could know we were getting Hester, it would probably be worth it. It’s worth noting that, as amazing as Hester is, he gives back a lot because he fumbles so damn much.

How many games did the Bears win because of Hester?
How many did they lose because of his fumbles?
