***UPDATE*** Niners Nation Fantasy Football ***UPDATE***
EDITOR'S UPDATE 7/24 4:45PM - If you come into this post for fantasy football information, please go to the MOST RECENT POST at that link to sign up.
EDITOR'S NOTE WEDNESDAY 10AM: Looks like the signup info and whatnot will be coming out tonight or tomorrow morning. Waiting for a few links from AOL (our partner in this). Apologies for the delay.
EDITOR'S NOTE WEDNESDAY MIDNIGHT: I'm not sure how many of you notice the advertising up on the right side of the front page. I was looking this evening and noticed an ad for "SB Nation: The Fanhouse Leagues." For those wondering, that is a link for the SB Nation Fantasy Football Leagues. I'm anticipating an email Wednesday morning with some final details on the setup for the league. At that point I'll have a whole host of details for how to sign up for the Niners Nation Fantasy Football League. If you're interested in being a part of this and have NOT let me know, please indicate your interest in the comments of this post.
More details to come around lunchtime or so (west coast time).
*****************************************************************************
It may only be June, but that certainly doesn't mean we can't start talking about fantasy football. Last season the NFL bloggers had a blogger league over at cbs.sportsline.com. This year? We're going to have a Niners Nation league (or multiple leagues if there is enough interest). More importantly, there will be an actual prize to the winner (and one with cash value, not just a front page post). I don't have the details yet, but it will be something to be determined in the not too distant future.
For now I just want to get an idea of who would be interested. The plan is for a 12 team league and if there is sufficient interest, more than one league. There will be more details to come, as we'll be affiliating with a specific service.
For now, either drop a note in the comments or email me (link at the bottom of the page).
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

How did that famous qoute by Conan the Barbarian go?
Oh yeah now I remember… “Conan! what is best in life?” “To crush your enemies—See them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women”
Remember that as own you in fantasy football!

If there's enough interest can the first time posters be put in their own league?
I’m more interested in showing off my fantasy football genius to regular/quasi-regular posters who I’ve at least have had some sort of discourse with.
by methodrampage on Jul 1, 2008 11:31 AM PDT 0 recs
Hey man I'm a regular
I just wasn’t here this weekend. I think that their should be 2 leagues and that their should be a “super bowl” between the two at the end. Since we can’t obviously have an extra week perhaps who ever had the most points in their final game would win.

I've got no problem with guys like you
You’re almost at like 50 comments. My problem would be if some of the regular posters got bumped for some of the guys that just came out of the woodwork who’s first comment was in this thread.
Like what happens if you end up with 15 guys wanting to play and 5 of them are first timers? 3 guys will most likely be left out and if that’s the case I would hope it the league selections come down to like seniority or activity.

depends
Hopefully we’ll get sufficient interest to create multiple leagues. That’s what I’m hoping at least.

First Post
Been reading this website for awhile, read a post earlier that you guys didn’t want to see a first poster kick off an older member. If there is room or multiple leagues I would love to play.
by Mullester on Jul 1, 2008 7:45 PM PDT 0 recs
Someone should
make a list of the “regulars” and non regulars to divide the leagues if it gets to that many.
I too, would like to play with old school NN members.

mixing players
Personally I think mixing the proverbial regular and non-regular folks could help build the community.

Accountability
While I see your point. However, I think the NN noobs might pose a higher risk of abandoning their crappy team after two weeks and having a bunch of inactive owners is one sure fire way to spoil any FF league. It’s my feeling that NN regs might be a little more committed to their teams.

emails
As I can contact everybody who ends up joining the league, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on that and will email those who would dare sully the good name of fantasy football by abandoning their team!

People will stay if their is something to be gained
The only plausible ways of keeping people from being a bitch about staying with the league is doing 1 of these 4 possible scenarios:
1) Replace them:
If someone drops out of the league have someone else in another league take over their team. Basically say I dropped out and Fooch was in another league, and we knew hey wouldn’t be a ass about the whole thing and consented, then he would take over my team.
2) Delete the team:
- Just delete the whole team altogether and not let any players he had go to anyone else.
- Delete the team then have their players be re-distributed fairly among everybody. Have a mock draft by email or something, where the team in last place picks first then from there go in order on up. Perhaps you could trade your pick with another willing manager for one of their players.
3) Rewards:
- If you stay with the league, every week on the “front page” of ninersnation.com it shows the managers’ standings.
- Some type of reward for the winners of each league at the end of the season.
- My personal favorite, Money league. Make two leagues, one where it’s money to play the other free. It might not help the free league, but the pay league we know they be playing hardcore.
4) Punishment (none of these likely to happen, just for shits and giggles):
- Kicked off ninersnation.com
- Your name becomes autonomous with shit. For example: “Man the Raiders are shit this year!” Instead it would be “Man the Raiders are Fooch this year!” (not really Fooch)
- We start a blog where we just bash you repeatedly.
We’ll their you have it, and make anyone who wants to play sign a contract agreeing to whatever terms you deem necessary.
Next year will be our year! (copyright 2003*, been used each of last five years)

Those are all good, especially the ‘name autonomous with shit’ scenario. Lol good stuff

Any idea when the draft will be held? I’m assuming it won’t be until mid to late August so we know injuries and what not.

Each SB Nation football blog will have their own league, just through the same service. So our league will be a Niners Nation league consisting of Niners Nation users.
