Talking Football: I'd Like to Interview Somebody
Hi all,
I've gotten myself into a little project that's associated with the Year-by-Year articles that I've been writing, and by virtue of this I'll be pushing through the 1950's with a particular interest on NFL great Y. A. Tittle.
If there is anybody on these boards who was a fan during the 1951-1960 seasons that Tittle was a 49ers, I would love to have the opportunity to interview you by e-mail about the 49ers, the NFL, the seasons, the games, and Tittle himself during these years. Not only would it be a pleasure for me, but I believe that it will improve the quality of my output - and I know that it would REALLY help me out with the project that I'm working on.
So, if you're reading this and you remember those years and you would be interested in fielding some questions by e-mail while reflecting on the past, please either respond in this fanpost or send me an e-mail expressing your interest at howtheyscored@yahoo.com. The more the merrier, and I'm sincerely looking forward to talking to anybody who has the time and the interest.
Thanks.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Wishful Thinking on My Part
I was born in 1965.
I am curious how those 50’s and 60’s quarterbacks threw the ball. Nowadays players pump steroids into their system and even train like bodybuilders and some can even throw 70 yards kneeling down on the grass. I truly believe the old-school quarterbacks were strong with fundamentals and were finesse quarterbacks with a different style of play. They wouldn’t be able to survive in 2000’s NFL, because everyone is bigger and faster. People fly now.
Nowadays it’s all gunslinging and wringing the ball. Even with the good coaching.
One example I believe how players played back then and now:
In the 50’s if you were about to get tackled, you would deflect them by pushing them out of the way with your arms.
Nowadays the weapon is your own body. Dive head-on and butt heads. Frank Gore is a modern day player, because he barrels through with his lower body strength.
Am I wrong?

Yes
Nowadays it’s all gunslinging and wringing the ball.
So you’re saying there are no touch or finesse QBs anymore? Gunslinger isn’t exactly a term I’d use to describe Peyton Manning. I can think of some Teir 2 starting QBs that are far from gunslingers, Jeff Garcia comes to mind but it’s true most of the elite QBs have strong arms but Brett Favre is really the only modern day, well used to be, “gunslinger”.
you would deflect them by pushing them out of the way with your arms.
Oh, you mean like a stiff arm? I’m pretty sure the stiff arm is still rather prevalent in today’s modern era of football.
So what you’re saying is that the olden boys were slow and weak. Man they must have sucked at football.
