Saints trade for Shockey
ESPN is reporting that the Saints are going to send a second and fifth round pick to the Giants for Jeremy Shockey. That would certainly cut into my boy, Eric Johnson's playing time.
Since the addition of Brees, the Saints have had an impressive passing attack. Eric Johnson put up 48 receptions for 378 yards and 2 touchdowns. While he probably won't put up the same numbers, combine him with Shockey and you've got an impressive pair of tight ends.
Aside from Marques Colston, the Saints WRs have had issues recently, but adding one more offensive threat should help right the ship.
So, thoughts on the signing?

All I can say, "Hello Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker'"
as they are my men and they’ll do their jobs.
And they will flourish in the Martz offense.

OL.
How good is the Saint’s offensive line? I don’t really follow them that closely, but from what I gather, I think they’re likely the determining factor in that offense. They have running backs (McAllister, Bush, Stecker), tight ends (Shockey, Johnson), and potentially two above average WRs (Colston, Meachem). As long as Brees has the time to find his targets and the RBs have room to run, that offense should be pretty darn entertaining.

My only thought
MOTHERF@#%ER.
Well that’s really not my only thought but I just wanted to be concise.

Interesting
that they gave up more for Shockey than the skins did for Taylor. I know Taylor is quite a bit older, but both guys are still among the elite at their position and DE is considered one of the most important positions on the field while TE is generally conidered one of the least important. Should make the Saints’ O scary good though.

Two TE sets. Good for them!
Personally, I’m not a Shockey guy. He’s always seemed overrated to me, but what the hell do I know? Anyone care to tell me how he’s not overrated and I just let my disdain for the guy blind me to his eliteness? Elitiness? Eli-tennis? Hamstray?

Over/under
I don’t know if he’s not overrated or if he is. I just know that he’s a pretty unique tight end who has above average speed (not Vernon Davis speed, of course) and is pretty physical. His attitude does suck and it makes him look bad, but I think he’s a fairly good player. Probably one of the better tight ends in the league.

He's not as much of a punk
as Kellen Winslow. thats about the only good thing I can say about him.

Shockey will probably be on the injured list too long to make an impact.

How’s that for making money by making impact on the injured list?
