Niners Nation Madden League Interest

FOOCH NOTE - 8/14 - 8:15PM - Now that Madden has been released I wanted to move this back to the top of the FanPosts. I don't have an XBox so I won't be involved but it sounds like we've got some real interest in this.

Hey guys, just putting this out there but is anyone interested in having a Ninersnation.com Madden league for Xbox 360. The game has a built in league feature so it wouldnt be all that hard. I ran a 16 team league last year, and with no built in league feature it was a pain, but I would be fine running a small league here. The game lets you choose how many teams up to 32 so there arent certain intervals we would have reach ( 8, 12, 16 etc.....)

Depending on the interest we would come up with a way to make the teams as fair as possible (no one over 90 overall for example) and I believe EA provides a forum for your league online. Fooch would allow us to have a weekly fan post about the league so we could have some civil smack talk (mostly against the bears.......)

I only play games on the PC, and frickin’ EA Sports shut down the PC version of Madden. I guess it’s understandable, since not everyone is bright enough to go buy a friggin’ XBox360 controller for the PC, but whatever. I’m bitter and that’s all there is to it.

PC gaming in general is going through a prolonged rough patch. With the quality, variety, and availability of console games growing so quickly over the last 4-5 years, PC gaming has actually suffered quite a bit for all but the elite games (which, invariably seem to get ported to the consoles now, anyway). It might make sense for EA just from a shrinking market standpoint to pull Madden from the PC so they can focus more on their PC games that don’t translate so well to consoles (pretty much, I mean Sims).

The system requirements for Diablo 3 and SC2 are going to be really low. You shouldn’t need a total overhaul for it.

HTS is right about gaming on the PC, and he’s definitely right about the reasons for pulling Madden. I don’t blame them personally. The market for sports games on the PC is shrinking, and the PC version of Madden has long been the ugly red-headed stepchild that gets ignored. While they make huge improvements to the console versions, the PC version has only gotten minor tweaks and mostly just updated rosters.

What sucks is, I have a multitude of uses for my PC, including gaming. But what I don’t have is a multitude of uses or money for a Wii/PS3/XBox360. They’re an expense I just can’t justify. So I’m basically screwed until I win the lottery. Which I don’t play. You see the dilemma I’m in?

PS3

The PS3 is becoming more and more, justifiable, as time goes on. From what I understand, it’s already one of the better (if not one of the best) options for a Blu-Ray player. If the price keeps dropping, it should make that system look more and more attractive to the consumer.

That’s not to say I’m going to ever own one. It’s also not to say that Blu-Ray is definitely the medium of the future (at least on the sense that the DVD was the medium of the future years ago).

I thought about getting one, but I don’t have the tv and sound capabilities to take full advantage of what it offers…So I have a Wii instead.

A while back, we were able to purchase kick-ass HDTVs through my office for a very nice price. So I bought one, and haven’t regretted it yet. I’d love to get a PS3 for the Blu-Ray and gaming. The problem, too, is games are expensive, as are movies in Blu-Ray.

But ultimately, we’re a single-income family (for the most part), living in an expensive town in the expensive Bay Area, working a job that pays well but still causes us to struggle financially. Basically, I’ll get a PS3 once we move somewhere affordable and we’re able to put away a few hundred a month. Until, then, if my computer dies, I don’t even think I’m going to be able to replace THAT! And I freakin’ work in IT for the love of me!

How do you the leagues work? Do you have to play a game everyday, once a week, and how does it get scheduled? I’d totally be game but I’m travelling for work 3-4 nights a week thru August (but home on the weekends).

the league progresses however the commish decides, my idea (subject to change if the masses yell at me….) would be 1 or 2 games a week. So weekends would likely be fine

The game this year has open flex scheduling, so u can play anyone at any time, but for the sake of stuff making sense, we would make it a little more structured than that (maybe assign a schedule guideline) or something)

I’ve played 4 games so far, and color me unimpressed. It’s only 4 games, so I’m going to give it quite a few more chances.

Anyways, the way they have it set up to adjust the difficulty after each game based on your skill is a bit wonky. First off, I haven’t had a decent game running (with the 49ers, soo..) yet, but it keeps bumping up the difficulty to run. Running is typically my strength in Madden. I started out in the All-Madden portion of difficulty for running, and it keeps getting harder even though I’m usually averaging around 3 yards a carry. Frank Gore, in those 4 games, has probably 4 broken tackles.

I definitely don’t like how they’ve tweaked the physics. It’s really hard to control the guys, but maybe I’ll get better with time. This is another problem with the running, since it’s really hard to cut outside.

Anyways, if you guys have any questions about the game, I’ll be glad to answer them.

To answer your second question, I am doing a franchise, and it seems to be basically the same as last year. There are a few tweaks such as the Franchise Rivals, but nothing major. I’m only into the first offseason though.

Slightly OT question:

Has anyone here had issues with getting connected to EA Sports through their AT&T high-speed internet? On my PS2 I have no problems connecting with games not made by EA, but with any EA game I’m unable to get through. Has anyone else had this issue?

I had this issue

with my xbox live. it was weird, i couldn’t connect to the “EA Server” but i was connected to xboxlive.
I just unplugged the power from my router and plugged it back in to sign on while the game was playing, then I tried it again and it went through.

I used to have these issues.
If you’re going wireless, unplug the power from the adapter connected to your box.
reconnect it while its on.
that worked for me.
