O' Boy
J.T. O'Sullivan.... Hmmm. Could that be the name that finally brings back the force that once was the San Francisco 49ers offense? Well I know one thing he can't make it worse. Don't get me wrong I like Alex and Shaun, shit I like alot of players that havn't made our team better. Does that mean I want to watch them week in and week out humuliating this of one of a kind franchise? Nope! Bring on the season and bring out O'Sullivan.

I think O’Sullivan is the kind of guy that won’t make a lot of mistakes and can make our offense better than it was last year, but by no means is he going to make the Niners back to the Niners of old. I think we will be hearing a lot of “O’Sullivan to Morgan…TOUCHDOWN 49ERS!”
Autzen was the first stadium to start calling black people "African Americans", ... instead of colored people. A true trailblazer.

mistakes
See I think O’Sullivan will make a lot of mistakes but will also make big plays. Maybe a poor man’s Brett Favre? Ok, let’s call him a homeless man’s Favre. Trying to force things will lead to some hideous interceptions, but also some big plays like we saw last night.

We shall see
One thing that we all know, we don’t have a long term QB on our roster.
I'm young, and pretty, and can't possibley be beat.

I think Matt Maiocco said something similar today
Paraphrasing from memory: His highs may be higher than Smiths, but his lows may also be lower than Smiths.

Well...?
I think that the most important thing any quarterback does is score points the second most is be a leader on and off the field. I havn’t heard anything about Alexs’ ability to rally his team or lead it? I’ve already heard about O’Sullivans on and off the field leadership….

Smith...
… has shown previous glimpses of leadership in regular season game situations (including a late-season game in a “playoff hunt” IN a division rival’s stadium). If you’re going to go by “leadership,” I think Smith has shown just as much as O’Sullivan, and you’re actually able to see Smith’s. O’Sullivan, so far, is primarily word of mouth.

Oh boy… so J. T. O’Sullivan is the new Shaun Hill, then?

latching on
It’s always easy to latch on to the “next big thing.” Although Hill and O’Sullivan aren’t exactly “big things.”

O’Sullivan is not and will never be the successor to the 49ers QB throne.

Does anyone else feel like
Smith needs an Apollo Creed-like speech? It seems he’s lost his edge with the whole QB controversy, and needs some crazy motivation where he breaks down, admits he’s scared, and then has a semi-gay frolic on the beach before he can finally regain his confidence and show why he was drafted #1. I’m just more or less surprised he hasn’t stepped up to the plate and taken charge in this QB battle. He’s obviously the most talented, he just can’t seem to figure it out for whatever reason.

O'Sullivan
I don’t think people put enough credence in knowing a system for an entire year, especially sitting on the sideline and watching it unfold (or not unfold) and learning why. Smith has known Martz for only a few months while O’Sullivan has had the benefit of knowing him for over a year. I think Smith will be okay, but as most around here already knew, it was going to be difficult to pick up Martz’s scheme in less than one entire offseason.
He’s starting to show some signs of learning, though. I didn’t get to watch the game, but on one instance, he had enough trust in Morgan and the system to throw the ball before Morgan went into his break. That’s a sign of learning. The hope is that he continues to show that and make bigger strides next week. I’ll be surprised if Smith isn’t the starter for Thursday’s game.

If Smith is not the starter for Thursday's game...
(or Hill), then I’m seriously boycotting Martz.
Not that he’ll notice, but still.

Just curious
How does one go about boycotting an offensive coordinator? Only watching defensive series?

why do people hate O' Sullivan?
Has Smith or Hill done anything to suggest they are better than him? If the coaches feel more comfortable with JT running the offense, i think they probably have a good reason. I am going to do the unthinkable this season and actually trust the coaching staff and see what happens
by albertoleecho on Aug 18, 2008 6:59 PM PDT 0 recs
Simple...
I gave up on trusting the coaching staff after:
A) Martz’ past
B) Nolan pushing Smith into the starting lineup even though he was too sore to play, then later questioning his toughness.
C) Nolan refusing to play Shaun Hill, even though Dilfer clearly was failing to play well

I don’t hate on O’Sullivan. I hate on The Glorification of O’Sullivan.
VERY important difference.
