The Bears struggled last season but are still a defensive force to be reckoned with. This is might be the most important game of the preseason considering we'll see the most playing time for the first teamers.
The 49ers have plenty of issues to resolve but they are definitely starting to get some answers. Even as an "Alex Smith guy," I think the best bet right now is for J.T. O'Sullivan to have a solid performance and lock down the #1 job. He's spent the most time with the first team offense and has hopefully developed some nice chemistry. And if he struggles, well hopefully Smith has a good performance.
One quick unrelated point, I've gotten interest from 6 folks for our 4th and final Niners Nation Fantasy Football League. If you aren't in a league and haven't let me know of your interest, either leave a comment in the game thread or email me at ninersnation@gmail.com. I'd like 6 more people to make it a 12-team league so hopefully we can get 6 more folks. And remember, there WILL be prizes (and not just a front page post!).
As always, if you feel like joining the conversation, click on "Sign Up" on the top left side of the front page, or "Sign Up" at the bottom of the comments for this thread. Either way, your opinions and insights are greatly appreciated and welcomed.
I'll be back with a recap late tonight or early tomorrow.
GO NINERS!

If JT is the starter, I’d like to see the confidence in him to throw the ball in that situation.

classic catch and fall from Issac

The redzone play leaves something to be desired. But at least he’s getting into the redzone.

It’s all Rashied! Arena League receivers are terribly underscouted. Mostly cuz they come from D-2 or lower, and are often small.

lol who kicks the kickoff out of bounds

sucks no TD, but i like the fact we got the ball in FG range
Simply by pulling on both ends, Patrick Willis can stretch diamonds back into coal
That was terrible!
WTH? The offense actually gets into position with, like, NO time and no TOs and you do that????
seriously….poor ricky schmitt, his shot at the big time was ruined

He scores points and doesn't turn the ball over,
but yes, his accuracy and deep ball is pretty awful. Methinks his shoulder isn’t fully healed.
Yes
But
Alex has had plenty of time to develop (perhaps not in the system, I realize he’s had his share of coaches/systems), but JT has shown solid improvement whereas Smith still looks a bit rough.
JT has 1 year in the system already,
but I do agree- you’d think AS’ accuracy would at least be OK by now.
Alex almost got him killed once then underthrew him a second time
Simply by pulling on both ends, Patrick Willis can stretch diamonds back into coal
he underthrew morgan right after the play he almost killed him i believe
Simply by pulling on both ends, Patrick Willis can stretch diamonds back into coal

This is true
and it was basically starters. Definite cause for concern, but there was only 5 days to rest…(optimist)
remind me again why Shaun Hill has had no chance to prove himself

Patrick Willis
I just saw the interview he did with Chris Myers and man was I impressed. I am a Colts fan and during the ’07 draft I believe (when he was drafted) I saw what he did at the senior bowl on NFL Network and saw scouting tape on him. I was so hoping we could have drafted him since he fits the Colts cover 2 perfectly. Now after listening to the interview I know he would have fit the personality the Colts look for on there team.
You guys have yourself quite a player in Willis and im looking for him to have a monster year. Good luck to the Niners.
you know a stat that makes me really happy

I don’t mind occasional swearing, but try and keep it a little less if you can.

Good game
I was impressed by the 49ers offense yet again this week, but the special teams play needs to improve a great deal and very quickly. I’m excited for this season!
I'm still not sold
I’ll watch the games, root for the niners, and will never boo anyone, but it will take more than this for me to support JTO.
PS
Shaun Hill didn’t even get a chance. All he did is handoff and throw screen passes.
I guess my love affair for Shaun Hill is really that he stepped in from nowhere and partially redeemed our season from hell last year. I think he deserves better than this. Shame on you, Mike Martz, shame on you.
I agree with you, I don’t feel like Shaun Hill is getting a fair shot, I thought he played pretty good tonight,
I just don’t understand why he is just put out there against the third team and not even given a shot at a first team defense. For it to be an even QB competition shouldn’t each guy get at least 1 start? Then the guy who played best could get the start for the 4th game.
BTW funniest quote of the night " I think Mike Nolan is an honest guy." -Troy Aikman…..that guy had me cracking up all night. he is terrible.
Simply by pulling on both ends, Patrick Willis can stretch diamonds back into coal
His arm is too weak
I love the guy too, but he can’t throw downfield, and that’s what you need to play in Martz’ offense.
