Well, this is it.  It's the last game of the exhibition season and the real games are just around the corner.  The first team units will not get much playing time, although I'd hope Bryant Johnson, Arnaz Battle and Ashley Lelie get a little bit of time with the second team as well.  While they've been judged in practice, a game situation, ANY game situation provides a better backdrop for assessments.

Final cuts are tomorrow and the bubble battle is down to a few players.  On offense, Zak Keasey and Moran Norris are battling for a spot and Dominique Zeigler, Ashley Lelie and the loser in the fullback battle are battling for another roster spot.  On defense, Keith Lewis is looking to lock things up with some solid special teams work tonight.  Jay Moore seems to be on the outside looking in, while Tully Banta-Cain seems to have done enough to get a spot on the 53-man.

While the fourth exhibition game is usually the least interesting, there will still be plenty to discuss.  I'll be around with a quick recap after the game and then more follow-up in the coming days...particularly with the cuts tomorrow.

GO NINERS!

It will be nice to see what Bryant Johnson can do...

As well as seeing if Alex Smith can hit receivers in stride.

Thomas is making too many mistakes.

I still can’t believe the Niners let Moore walk. Nolan’s a buffoon.

Hot dogs, get your hot dogs.

Ulbrich is just jumping on piles

He can’t make a solo tackle, he sucks!

Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.

Goldson should be the starter!

Roman should be a backup… he can’t tackle or make an interception

I’m working, so I can’t participate in the thread (since I can’t watch the game), but this way I get one comment hit for Fooch’s mod-stalk post-game application counter synopsis!

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

Yeah

I can’t watch the game because..well VA sucks, but I want to be included in the post game application counter shenanigans!!

I'm a moron

That’s what I get for cutting and pasting the general framework from the Week 2 Packers game.

Alex has had a nasty habit of throwing behind his receivers tonight.

I think Alex has a bad case of bad luck...

Maybe it’s a lack of spirit on the receiver’s part when he’s out there, but it does seem to be a lot more dropped balls when Smith is out there.

From round table commercial should be an offensive lineman… he can probably would be a great pulling guard… SIGN HIM!!

So if J.T. O'Sullivan...

If he has a solid season should we draft a QB with one of our top two draft picks? Any ideas on who?

question

Are you asking that under the assumption that he signs with somebody else after this season?

No that if he stays for another year

and that we release Alex Smith. Kind of like an Aaron Rogers situation with Brett Favre.

Hate to say it . . . but

More proof tonight that Smith is a “millstone” around this franchise’s neck!
