Alex Smith Still Injured: To See Dr. James Andrews
Don't have a link yet, but just saw this on the ESPN Bottomline:
An MRI revealed that a piece of bone from Alex's Smith shoulder broke off during his prior surgery, if I remember correctly. He is gonna see the doctor who performed the surgery, James Andrews.
Another case of bad luck in this drawn out saga. I still haven't decided whether or not I believe this is still affecting his play, most notably his horrible accuracy that we have seen. Thoughts?

The end of an era
I guess this signals the end of the Alex Smith era in San Francisco. It’s sad because I think he could have actually turned into a decent quarterback had he been handled properly under a permanent OC. I wonder how he’ll fare next year for a new team. I bet he’ll come into Candlestick and pick up a win at some point in his career…i don’t think he’s as bad as it seems. This was just a bad fit from the start.
shoulder
Apparently a piece of bone broke off in the area of the surgery.
Matt Barrows referred to it as a fracture in his throwing shoulder.
This is not pretty.

Update
Alex Smith has a fracture of the coracoid process, a bone in the shoulder that is rarely broken . . . similar fractures have been treated with surgery and the insertion of pins . . . Doctors are surprised by the diagnosis and speculate that Smith may have had a stress fracture in the shoulder that gave way when he threw the deep pass on Friday.
Barrows says there’s a strong possibility Smith could go on injured reserve. The situation certainly got worse real quick.
