Scott Linehan turns down 49ers offensive coordinator position
And just like that, many people's #1 choice is no more. MM and Barrows have informed us all that Scott Linehan declined the 49ers OC position. Since Rick Dennison was retained in Denver, that leaves Browns OC Rob Chudzinski and Colts WR coach Clyde Christensen as th remaining OC candidates.
Linehand indicated the decision was not business-related and was a strictly personal choice:
Linehan said his reasons for declining the job offer were "all personal." Linehan and his wife, Kristen, have three young boys, the oldest of whom will be entering high school. The family has never lived in the same place for more than three years since Linehan broke into coaching in 1989.
"When I was 25, these decisions were made and I'd grab my luggage and go," he said. "Now, at 45, with three kids, trying to figure out the right thing is different. It was a lot easier when I was 25 - it was not so complicated."
Of the two remaining candidates I am intrigued by Chudzinski. He is more of a passing game guy, as seen by his time in Cleveland. However, his use of tight end Kellen Winslow makes for some intriguing options with Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker.
According to Barrows, Singletary and McCloughan will meet this evening to discuss the remaining candidates and any possible internal candidates.

Embarressing
Why did we announce anything concerning who we want as OC? Now anyone who gets the next offer knows that they are the, at best, number two option for this team. Lame lame lame lame lame
Blind devotion.

Did we actually announce it? I thought it was leaked and the Niners did a public no-comment? I doubt anybody could have stopped a contract offer from being leaked. It doesn’t seem like any ship in any sport is that tight anymore.

leaks
As howtheyscored said, it was primarily just leaks. If you check out the 49ers News Section, the closest link was just a rundown of the people who interviewed.

Dumptruck
Now we are screwed, out two available candidates are worthless and can’t run the ball to save their life. We need to conduct a couple more interviews and get someone that is worth our time, how about Crennel he was a great OC with NE???? whaddya guys think
Crennel
Romeo was the Patriots defensive coordinator. Charlie Weiss was the OC.

Nolan, 2.0....
The difference here is, Linehan isn’t that desperate for a job.
Memo to Jed: January is the time when you pick a Head coach, which you will soon find out.
Well, we're waiting....
january?
You’re already down on Singletary (I’m aassuming you mean Singletary is Nolan 2.0?)? Should they have just strung him a long for a couple weeks hoping something better might come along?

Jeff Jagodzinski
A random site suggested he would be interviewing but it never came to be (I think it was National Football Post or something like that).

How about...
Denny Green, then?

What I dont understand is...
why bother going for a 2nd interview if you’re only gonna turn down the job if it gets offered. I mean, Linehan must have had an idea that he would refuse the job if he was offered it. Just stringing the franchise along as far as I can see.

It's hard to reject an offer before you get it
Linehan was simple doing his due diligence. I’m sure there was some kind of offer the Niners could have made that he would have accepted. Maybe the dollar amount wasn’t enough to entice him to move again. Maybe didn’t like something he heard in the 2nd interview. I doubt Linehan wasted his and the Niners’ time just for the sake of wasting time.
