The Lions.... really?!?!
According to ESPN Linehan is going to be OC for the Lions. WTF mate? He likes the situation there better? I can't wait till we play them next year. I don't know, maybe he likes Stafford and wants to work with him. Either way, I'm with Fooch, don't insult us with the personal reasons crap. Not to mention he's moving his family to the Murder Capital of the US, if I remember correctly. Eh, what ever, he's not worth the effort to get worked up over.

I had the same reaction

Well, Detroit is closer to Missouri….

I thought Oakland was the murder capitol of the nation.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
It varies
Detroit is usually up there. A couple years ago it was Gary, IN and recently it was Youngstown, OH.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
I thought Baltimore was up there
Same with New Orleans, although I may be mistaken.

Yeah I thought it was DC or Baltimore

Camden, New Jersey
Is also in that mix with DC, Baltimore, New Orleans, Gary

Sorry guys
I don’t mean this as an insult, but it sounds to me like every place in the US has had its turn as the murder capital of the States.
It was just quite funny to read thats all.

Contrary to popular belief
there are more than 5 or 6 cities in America.

it was
but a couple other cities had some higher draft picks and were able to catch up. Plus, Oakland is in a much easier division.

Linehan's word
If taken at his word, that he wants to keep his family in the St. Louis area so his children can have some stability in school, Detroit isn’t a bad option. It would be about a 1.5 hour commute a couple of times a week as opposed to 4 hours from the Bay Area. From that standpoint, I think it really is a better situation for him.
Besides, think of the accolades if the Lions offense develops respectability on his watch. That’s a challenge.
Truth has a well-known liberal bias.
I don't follow
St. Louis is a 4-hour commute from the Bay Area? Detroit is a 1.5 hour commute? Sorry, I’m missing something here.

Thanks to Dave Birkett of The Oakland Press for passing along this nugget from Lions coach Jim Schwartz, who indicated that new Lions offensive coordinator Scot Linehan plans to move his family to Michigan.
“He was very clear on a few things and one of which are his sons,” Schwartz said. “He has young sons and he wanted to get them settled and get them in school, and this was an attractive area for him. I thought that said a lot about the city of Detroit and the suburbs that he wanted his family to relocate here. I think he said he’s moved about 16 times or so, and it was important for him to get some stability.”

Cowardly Lion
It’s apparent that Linehan wouldn’t fit here just based on class alone. Now I’m glad that we didn’t get him although I was pulling for him early on. He’s guaranteed to make them better and then leverage himself into a HC position next year. He couldn’t get that here.
Detroit is still wasting their time as they should know he’s not going to be loyal after using his kids as a skapegoat here. Welcome to the revolving OC door, Detroit!

So Linehan takes a job a little closer to home
and gets to draft and develop his own pet QB.
The fact that it happens to be in Detroit is a bit odd, but apart from that, it makes sense.

Eh.
The way I see it, who’s to judge him on what he feels is better for his family. The man has gotten sick of relocating his family and would like to keep them in one place, which means he’d have to “commute.” Is it really wrong for him to want to find a job closer to “home” then?
since he’s moving his family to detroit, it’s obvious that the whole “stability” reason he gave for turning the niners down was a lie. i don’t really care what the man decides to do with his life, but he really made it seem like turning the niners down for the sake of his family was the most agonizing decision he ever made. but his accepting of the detroit gig means that he either thinks the lions, a team that hasn’t won a regular season game in over a year, present a better situation for him than the niners; or that he believes the detroit area, home of devil’s night and rasheed wallace, is a more ideal locale to raise a family. either one is a slap in the face to the niners and their fans.
Oh yea Detroit is a great place to raise a family.....
Not
Fans stuck in the 80's are lame. Respect the past, live in the now.
Maybe..
… Detroit was willing to pay for his relocation? Maybe they have an inside track to some private schools or something for his children? Maybe the Lions gave him that pony he always wanted?
The point is, no one really knows the situation other than he’s going to work for the Lions. It’s ridiculous to ridicule a man who, in his employment circle, his peers feel he’s a great person and an honest man.
Expectations
In Detroit if they win ONE GAME, they’ll be treated as HEROES. Here, the expectations are a bit higher.

It seems to me
that he wanted to go to a franchise as an OC that he would eventually become a HC in. I think he only sees the OC position as a stepping stone to getting back as a HC asap – wherever that may be. He obviously didnt see the niners as an organisation in which he would be offered a HC job at.
Which makes the reasons he gave for turning us down as complete and utter rubbish.
