Super Bowl Party: Jersey Etiquette
Simple Question: What is the proper etiquette on wearing a jersey/t-shirt/sweat shirt to a super bowl party? Is it a sports feux paux to wear gear of a team that has long been eliminated from super bowl contention (coughninerscough), or are you proclaiming your allegiance to football, and showing your support for the biggest single sports game in the US?
Also, what if the super bowl party was being held by someone who is a Steelers/Cardinals fan? Are you infringing on their fun, or showing your love?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

I say yes, but
its also the perfect time to break out the Pat Tillman jersey (or today would be the perfect time to go get one) and show support on multiple levels.

No, there’s nothing wrong with wearing your Niner gear. For crying out loud, I don’t have a Cardinals (or Steelers) jersey, and I’m sure as hell not buying one. What am I supposed to wear for a football game? Some nerdy polo shirt?
The key is that if you’re not going to rep either your team or the team of your choice with gear, just choose your colors carefully. No Cowboys colors. No Packers colors. In other words: no accidentally repping the wrong side of a great sport.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
Thank you
Everyone who participated in this poll… You rule.
I’m wearing Jerry Rice (eligible next year for HOF) to my party, just wanted to double check.
Here’s tp a good super bowl…
Blind devotion.

jersey
Ahhh, see that changes things. I normally go no jersey for non-49ers Super Bowls. However, I’d rock the retired player jersey at random times like that.

I spend most of my time overseas...
…so I say yes largely because wearing a jersey at a Super Bowl party means I know that a split end lines up on the line of scrimmage and is not something that good shampoo can fix.
Also I have an active rooting interest in the game – I’m actively rooting for the Steelers not to win six Super Bowls.
Hell naw. We’re tight.

49ers garb is appropriate at any casual party.
It symbolizes our allegiance to the team in good times and bad times. Lately some very bad times . :-(
I wore...
my Saints Drew Brees jersey to the super bowl party I went to…among some of the other non-participant teams represented via player jerseys there: Urlacher, Brady, Rice, LT, assorted Raiders players.
Not only acceptable, but almost standard at that particular get-together.
