Your Opinion on Greg Knapp?
Hey guys, if you didn't hear the news, the Seattle Seahawks hired former 49ers OC Greg Knapp to be their OC, replacing Gil Haskell.
I know quite a bit about Knapp dating back to when I was in the Bay Area, and I'm absolutely satisfied that I'll get to see our running game actually used. He seems to be a WCO guy who wants the tight ends and running backs involved, and our tight end John Carlson has been amazing.
I want to know about this blog's opinion of Knapp, because when I do my write-up I want multiple opinions, and I'll start off with the place where he got his first offensive coordinator job.
Should I be happy? Should I be fuming? Should I go back to rooting for the Niners full-time? ;-)
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Hard to tell
It’s been a long time since the days of Greg Knapp. I’m guessing most 49ers fans remember him from the time Terrell Owens verbally assaulted him on the sidelines in one game. Knapp definitely falls under the conservative category, which might work well if you think your running game is developing at the right pace.

My memory from the Greg Knapp days
The only thing I remember, and other people may be able to set you straight on this… When Jeff Garcia was QB under Marty Morhinweg and Steve Marriucci, they tailored the offense to his strengths. They got him rolling outside the pocket and moving around. As he did so, his numbers were pretty impressive. As I recall, his last year as a Niner was under Greg Knapp. He didn’t roll out of the pocket, and the offense just seemed to drag. I was unimpressed, as apparently was Terrell Owens.
Keep in mind, this is only my recollection, some five-ish years later (don’t even remember how many years past). Take it with a grain of salt.

one word...
horrible.
a few more words though…my lasting impression of knapp is the patented up-the-middle run on 3rd and 5 or more. to me, he’s the reincarnation of marc trestman. in atlanta, he tried to turn vick into a pocket passer. i think that’s enough said.

Oh man
Please enjoy 5-yard outs on every 3rd-and-10!
I couldn’t be happier that he’s now with a division rival.
Never forget: I am a complete idiot

Here's an idea..
Now that the Niner’s are actually on a track, let’s have an amnesty day for traitors who switched to Oakland. Yeah right, keep suffering with the Raiders. You don’t deserve a bandwagon.

Traitors? It's not like I totally jumped ship. I was 7, how would I know about bandwagoning? ;-)
And I will never root for the Raiders. EVER!

That wasn’t a direct insult to you. And I wasn’t very clear either. I thought I had a funny idea and splurted it right out there before my brain could catch up. Where did I get the Raiders idea anyways..? The ninja just tripped over Freud.
I was in Seattle this summer and was bummed because it wasn’t football season. It would be fun to experience a Seahawks game in that stadium and then hit a microbrewery downtown. You people are great there.

I got to take a tour of Qwest Field a few years ago, during the offseason. Man, that was a seriously cool stadium!
We hit this little brewery afterwards that they don’t have here in the Bay Area, not in Walnut Creek, not in Berkeley… This awesome little place called Pyramid! Good stuff, y’all should try it!

Use to get way to conservative when with the 9ers
Fans stuck in the 80's are lame. Respect the past, live in the now.

Seems like a mixed response
I think part of it is that with Holmgren thinks the shotgun is a gadget play, and he did run it a lot in San Fran and Atlanta.
Our playcalling is very conservative and we are more likely to abandon the run than to abandon the pass (even when the pass, like this year, was not working). The 49ers teams I watched during the Knapp days had a lot of rollout plays, kept Garcia moving…..Hasselbeck isn’t the kind of guy who will move around, but he’s good enough.
BTW, congrats on getting Rathman. I hope the 49ers can at least get a winning record (which should equal an NFC West title).
