Sunday Morning GO REDSKINS Thread

The morning games have begun meaning our Carolina Panthers are doing battle at home against the Washington Redskins.  After an early Carolina turnover, Clinton Portis caught a 10 yard touchdown pass to give the Redskins a 7-0 lead.  Carolina just punted and Washington has the ball back looking to add to the lead.  Let's go draft pick!  Oh and the Rams are looking at another ugly loss as they appear to be down 14-0 after Kyle Boller lost the ball while passing and Jared Allen ran it back for a touchdown.

If you missed Florida Danny's post this morning breaking down our various players, I suggest you check it out, if only for the new nickname for the Crabtree/Davis duo.

So, until the 49ers get going, this will be our game thread.

Is it just me or is parity in the NFL becoming a thing of the past?

I don’t remember there being this many horrible teams in the league. Maybe it will even out as the season goes on, but it’s like the race for the #1 draft choice is a 10-team race right now.

My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

Gus Johnson just called Ray Rice “Sugar Ray.” Has anybody heard that nickname before? Does anybody named Ray automatically get it (Robinson, Leonard, Mosley)?

Read Michael Silver's

story on the Cable-Hanson beatdown. I loved how the article ended. Someone asked Hanson if he’d sue Cable and Hanson said, to the effect, What would Mr. Davis do?

Heheheheh.

Meanwhile, Justin Tuck just swiped the ball out of JaMarcus’s hand. If I were the Giants, I’d put Carr into the game. The Raiders couldn’t score 21 points if the Giants left the field for the rest of the game.

This was at Yahoo.

So our commish created a QB/WR/RB/TE slot.

I’ve been starting two QBs every week.

by jveezy on Oct 11, 2009 12:01 PM PDT up reply actions

That's retarded.

Why would anyone ever start a WR over a QB? Even middle-of the road QBs will put up numbers on par with the best receivers on a regular basis. Your commish is insane.

My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

by shlecko on Oct 11, 2009 12:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Our commish is pretty insane.

But he actually went through and tried to scale all the points so that all positions have a relatively equal impact on the outcome.

This is our scoring setup

Completions 0.1
Passing Yards 25 yards per point; 1 points at 300 yards; 3 points at 400 yards; 5 points at 500 yards
Passing Touchdowns 4
Interceptions -1
Rushing Yards 8 yards per point; 1 points at 100 yards; 2 points at 150 yards; 4 points at 200 yards
Rushing Touchdowns 6
Receptions 0.3
Reception Yards 7 yards per point; 1 points at 100 yards; 3 points at 150 yards; 5 points at 200 yards 10 yards per point; 1 points at 100 yards; 3 points at 150 yards; 5 points at 200 yards
Reception Touchdowns 6

Definitely strange and definitely a bit overboard, but it provides some interesting results. That said it is definitely more even so you really could start any position at the utility spot. I just happen to have two good quarterbacks.

Mcnabb

Fell to the 6th round so i picked him up for trade bait, but decided to start him considering Brady was going up against the Broncos D. No it’s a 7 team league if i am not mistaken. Fox sports.

On another note i have Hill, Coffee and Davis starting this week in my other league. Simply because Hill and Coffee were free agents and Gates is on a bye. My original starters were Matt Ryan and Michael Turner. I refuse to start them against the Niners

Most of the game this morning. Skins vs Panthers is actually one of the better played games.

I was the only one arguing the Panthers wouldn’t be that good all summer. I saw way too many at least 10 win predictions for that to get glossed over during confession.

Just waiting for X Factor to frinish ...

… then my wife will let me control the TV for the rest of the night. X Factor = Simon Cowell. You guys have Simon Cowell right? Sorry about him, on behalf of the English species.

So excited about tonight – Niners live on UK TV for the first time this season, which is recognition for our great start.

Love the Niners; Love Patrick; Love Mike Sing; Love 4-1!

Cheryl

The Queen of English hearts?! We’re keeping her. Did you know her husband Ashley plays for Chelsea. For me, as a Spurs fan, that’s like fancying someone who plays for Dallas. It makes you feel a little weird.

As in Tottenham Hotspur ...

… not San Antonio, don’t get me wrong, riot. Spurs hate Chelsea like Niners hate Dallas. So it’s cool to like Cheryl, but you’re aware that her husband is from the dark side …

Simon isn't that bad

Have you seen what American TV offers? He’s not worth missing a football game. Canada owes us about 1,000 apologies before Britain when it comes to TV entertainers.

… on family holidays in August in New England or Florida I watched American TV and envied you guys. That said, we haven’t had any talkshow hosts recently admitting to f-ing half of their production crew live on air … ;)

rice

That was definitely an impressive run after the catch by Rice. I have Flacco in a big fantasy league, so that was a big late TD.

by David Fucillo on Oct 11, 2009 12:33 PM PDT up reply actions

To bad the Ravens can’t figure that out. Watching the last 2 Raven games it appears they wait til the 4th Qtr before they decide to use him. They controlled the game the second they started using him against the Patriots.

Ray Rice

Was a 2nd round pick in 2008 from Rutgers. Man was i high on this player and would have loved the Niners to draft him, but we were in no situation to do that. He is an absolute beast

other sites

Folks are welcome to go to the opposition’s site, just don’t be a jerk. Just a heads-up that if you (anybody, not just nocal81) go to the other site and do something that gets you banned, don’t complain about it. Each site has their own rules.

banning

This is true, but some folks have been banned at Field Gulls and then came over here and complained about it. I’m just saying that folks interpret their own rules differently than others. Some sites are significantly quicker with the ban hammer. Here the only guarantee to get banned is unrelated spam. Other than that I’d prefer to use warnings.

The would have to score 20 points to beat Carolina. They couldn’t get 10 points against the Rams and couldn’t put 20 against the Lions.
