Brady Quinn??
Rumors are he's out of favor and could be on the trading block. Is this something worth pursuing? He never got a fair knock in Cleveland, especially when you get replaced by a guy who completed 2 passes and then you're told they're sticking with him. Looks like they'll save $5M by doing it so there's the incentive. Given the fact that they gave up Braylon for what looks like very little, maybe the 9ers would be able to strike a good deal. Anyway just thought I'd see what others thoughts are because I haven't seen this pop up yet.
Edit: Just realized it was brought up a while ago, but the situation seems to have changed a bit since then

It really, really depends on what you have to give up. He’s seeming more and more like a low-reward kind of a guy, and we don’t really have the personnel to make giving up anything of value for a low-reward prospect worthwhile.
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.
what i would give to have Brady Quinn wearing the red and gold...
a high five!
Chuck Norris has only lost in one thing. 1 on 1 with Monta.
Brady Quinn, Brady Quinn, Brady Quinn...
I keep seeing this guy’s name all over the place. I don’t understand. He’s a complete mediocrity. I’ve never seen him do anything that made me think that he was particularly gifted as a QB. Maybe if we were discussing the Raiders, it would make sense. The 49ers quarterbacks are merely not very good, rather than embarrassingly atrocious, though. What could Quinn possibly do for the 49ers? Play like Alex Smith for about the same money?

Yeah he's got a down field arm and a 30-35% completion rate!
Yeah bring him in……..LOL. Then we’ll have 7 WR’s and 4QB’s to be a Fysical team! Can we start taking time to think about some of the stuff that is postd? Wait I don’t all the time………..Go for it get Quinn!

Brady Quinn, never got a fair chance, the honest truth
I don’t think we should give up Brady just yet. He really has not had a fair chance to prove what he can do as an NFL “starter”, yes i said starter. His role has been coming off the bench to help the team win and he did a great job especially the game against Buffalo. I like anderson and he is doing the job for us for the most part however I don’t believe Quinn is that far behind. He is young, but is not in the best of systems either. I say keep him, you never know when anderson may go down, still early in the season.
NATE DAVIS
We have a guy that is being prepared for the future. You seen what he can do in the preseason and given the experience of this season he will be ready for starter or backup role. (a) strong arm (b) pocket awareness © mobile I would trade for a OL so we can at least give some time and room for passes.
Revenge is a dish best served in the playoffs!
I mentioned this in an Alex Smith thread the other day
I am not in favor of trading for Quinn, but when a “name” quarterback is available I think its worth having a dialogue about it. I do think that Quinn is probably better than Hill and Smith, but I don’t think he’s the answer for our team either.
I see several people talking about Nate Davis, but everytime I see it come up I think of the old adage that there’s no one on the team quite so popular as the back-up quarterback. I think what we all have to remember with him is that he was largely overlooked coming out of high school and out of college for a reason. I see Nate Davis and I think Tony Romo. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong, but I’m not optimistic.
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Huh?
I see Nate Davis and I think Tony Romo.
The future ain't what it used to be. ( Or so I thought until 10/11/2009 )
What's confusing?
Small college
Undrafted
Draws praise from coaching staff with very little actual game time
Of course its difficult, its a shortcut... if it was easy it'd just be "the way."
Nate Davis was drafted, though.

Let's not overlook...
that Tony Romo, although he’s more inconsistent than you would like, is more productive than anybody the 49ers have had as a starting QB since Jeff Garcia. With Romo instead of Hill, SF would probably be 4-1, and more likely to go 10-6 than 8-8. Some of the things I enjoy watching most about the Cowboys have to do with failures of coaching and failures of players other than the QB, actually.
I see Nate Davis and I think Donovan McNabb
Pretty much the exact same playing style….
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

Yeah, it really would be a shame if we made it to another Super Bowl.

Romo is worse in big games...
But that’s not the point.
I was just pointing out the fact that Nate Davis plays exactly the same as McNabb did when he was younger.
I wasn’t saying they have the same mentality and whatnot…..we can’t tell since Nate Davis has never played in a regular season NFL game.

Everybody sucks in big games until they win a Super Bowl. I do believe that people react differently to pressure, but I think the idea of a “Big Game” quarterback is deeply misunderstood. Most of the time the bigger factor is just “good quarterback playing better competition over a significantly smaller sample size = weird variance in results”.

So he could chuck it in to the crowd for souveniers? That’s the only upside you get with Quinn and all the over throws. He’s worse than Jay Shroeder. If Alex Smith and JaMarcus Russell had a baby and that baby became an NFL player, Quinn is still worse than that guy
I wasn't talking about Quinn
Quinn is a bust. I was talking about Romo.
Don't trust this guy. He lies.
Let's keep in mind if we do trade for a QB he has to learn the system
Then he has to get reps in the offense. What has Brady done besodes play for Weis at ND? Nothing, where would he be on our depth chart in fron tof Davis, and why?

I would rather have Sam Bradford if we give up on Nate Davis.
Our real needs are on the offensive line and maybe defensive line.
For what it's worth:
Eric Mangini says the Browns are NOT trying to trade Quinn.

Usually, when you try to trade for an expensive former first-round QB...
it’s because he’s substantially better than what you have. Unfortunately, while I’ve never been high on Hill, I think Brady Quinn is actually worse. To be honest, I’d rather start Alex Smith than Brady Quinn. Making a play for him would be stupid on far too many levels to count.
My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

I also agree
Unless the 49ers are going for the record of having the most 1st round busts at the QB position, I’m not sure why they’ld go for Quinn.
Don't trust this guy. He lies.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many times has Joe Montana thrown an interception in a super bowl?
i say no, but ask:
has his contract been restructured like A. Smith’s? Even if we give up a 6th or 7th rd pick, its not worth bringing him on, paying him starter money, and taking a cap hit if (when) we cut him.
If the 49ers...
… trade for him and have to cut him, they don’t take a cap hit for it. I’m pretty sure the acquiring team only acquires the player’s base salary, not the guaranteed pro-rated bonus value, as that money has already been paid out.
Alex Smith
I believe we should give Alex Smith one more chance.Smith has more zip on the ball than Hill.Hill cannot throw the ball and we are going to have to throw the ball in games. As in the Falcon game. The Falcon D isn’t a strong D and the 49er offense should have kept up with the Falcons offense TD per TD.I think it would be a mistake trading for Quinn because the Browns are gonna want a 1st rounder I assume.
-1
Smith=proven to suck.
Falcon D=pretty good.
Quinn=big mistake
Let’s not get the panties in a buch yet. We are winning our division. And I think we can take this division reasonably at 9-7 or 10-6. The Niners are clearly in a rebuilding year and to start insisting on getting someone like BQ is a bit premature.
We need asap an offensive line.
Smith sucks, I agree
But the Falcons D is not very good.
We were actually able to run against them, if our D didn’t allow 35 pts in the 1st half we could have done some damage through the ground.
They were well prepared, I’ll give them that…
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

if our D didn’t allow 35 pts in the 1st half
Apparently you missed the part where the offense burned through two timeouts, didn’t move anywhere, and the special teams fumbling?
I agree that defense flat out sucked in the first half, but they weren’t helped by the short field, either.
Doesn't change the fact that the Falcons D is average....
not “pretty good” as the dude above me mentioned
