Golden Nuggets: Ready for football... any football
That's right, today all I can think about is football. I've woken up, once again, expecting the 49ers to have a game but of course, we don't. Still, it is Sunday and I want to watch a game. Fortunately there's some really good action today. Surprisingly, I wont be watching the Seahawks play the Cardinals, it is of course, an important game to be sure, but I'm going to be focusing on the Saints playing the Giants, which to me is going to be a great game. But what of the 49ers? Not too sure, actually. I haven't looked at what I've got for you, but here's hoping there's some news to get us through the day and get us ready to start looking ahead to the Texans next Sunday. Here's your links for the day, enjoy 'em while you got 'em.
WR Michael Crabtree is likely going to be in on 12-15 snaps against the Texans. (ProFootballTalk.com)
The change on the offensive line is likely to be at RG, where Chilo Rachal has been a liability and thusly a letdown after a solid performance in the final six games of last season. (PressDemocrat.com)
What does everyone think about Shaun Hill? Can he take this team to the playoffs, would he do anything once he got there? He's not getting the team 1st downs, and until he turns this around, it isn't going to work out. (MercuryNews.com)
Gore used the bye week to rehab his ankle and should be ready for Houston. (Yahoo.com)
As of right now, I don't have anything else for you but I'll be updating shortly, hopefully.

Shaun Hill....
shouldn’t have all of the blame, or even most of it….how can you expect him to do a lot when a) his o-line doesn’t run block, so they get like 3 yards on 1st and 2nd down, and b) with the 3rd and long (an obvious pass play) his o-line doesn’t PASS block either, and he has 1/2-1 second to make a play…improve the line, then give him a chance
O-line
Ben Roethlisberger seems to handle that a little bit better. I know, bad comparison, but it just seems that the wins can be put on Hill, but no the loses. Just a thought.
Roth?
He has like 9 hours to throw every pass. Did you see the Sunday night game a few weeks back against San Diego. Big Ben went almost untouched and had anywhere from 4 to 10 seconds to throw it. They even displayed a seconds clock to show how much time he was getting to validate the time he was getting.
Roethlisberger has been sacked almost as many times
as Shaun Hill.
Hill—16 sacks
Roethlisberger—13 sacks
Roethlisberger has a QB rating of 102.6 and has thrown for a total of 1470 yards. Hill’s QB rating is a horrid 80.7 and has only thrown for 898 yards. Both play behind horrid O-lines who give up comparable number of sacks.
I'm saying that Ben's taken as many sacks
almost as Shaun Hill but has thrown for 500 more yards and has a much better QB rating.
If Pittsburgh’s O-line was all that you’re saying, you wouldn’t see Big Ben with 13 sacks (and I’m sure he’s managed to wiggle his way out of at least 3).
You want to see a good O-line? Look at Indy. They’ve given up only 2 sacks on Peyton Manning all year long. Pittsburgh has a great rushing O-line, but they’re not very good at pass protection, yet Big Ben still gets it done on the field.
Some of those sacks
Are because after having 5-6 seconds to throw, Ben still won’t throw it away and ends up taking a sack. It’s not because the pressure got there immediately.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Really?
Wow… I’ve been watching a different Steelers team then… And apparently, other people has been doing the same as well.
10 seconds to throw? Maybe because he runs, instead of just waiting for the hit. But again, I shouldn’t try this anymore, I give up. Yes, we’re lucky to have Hill – he’s awesome. Give him a decent offensive line, and watch out, Drew Brees.
Not the only one...
Who thinks the same thing about Pittsburgh’s O-line:
But again, I guess this Shaun Hill controversy will start and finish as before, in the middle of nowhere. Still, I hope and wish you’re right, for our team’s benefit.
????
Wow… I swear I see this just right now: “written on August 11, 2009”
Maybe I’m just blind – I can’t see a lot of talent in Hill, and now, I’m seeing wrong data, LOL – I’m done with this Shaun Hill thing. Go Niners!
Oh, that...
Sorry Bignerd, my bad – Maybe if they give me a better laptop, some time to browse, and another 3 or 4 weapons, I’ll do it better ;)
Ok
But the 49ers offensive still sucks and the Steelers offensive line has actually been good . . . well at least against their crummy schedule,
Shaun Hill
I think Shaun Hill is the most underrated QB in the NFL. So much so that he could almost be our secret weapon.
He’s trying to run an offense where the run is more valued than the pass. Then when the running game falters he’s expected to clean up the mess with a front line so porous that he gets sacked even from the shotgun.
What do they expect from this kid?
Give him a solid front line and spend some time on developing a passing game to balance the running game and I believe we’d have a first class QB.
