I'm kind of scared at this point
I'm not already writing off a loss to Indy next week...but Peyton Manning just looks like he cannot be stopped. We will not get blown out next week, but I'm almost 90% sure we lose, and our record drops to 3-4. Then the Cardinals(who probably lose to the Giants tonight), play the Panthers next week, at home. So I think we had to split between the Texans and the Colts, and I was hoping it would be the Texans. After the Colts, its the Titans and Bears at home, which I think should be 2-0 against them, but the Titans scare me more than the Bears, because they will be hungry to get rolling. So, if those predictions come true, we're 5-4 going into Green Bay. I think these next 3 games will decide our season, as we have to go 3-0 or 2-1 to still have a chance of making the playoffs. 1-2, will lead to a 4-6 record, while 0-3 will be 3-7 record, so I'm kind of nervous at this point. We might have needed this win in the long run. Next week his huge.

THE LOST TODAY MADE ME VERY HAPPY IN THE LONG RUN
I HOPE SMITH HAS TURNED IT AROUND AS HE WORKED WITH THE TREE OVER THE BYE WEEK AND IT HELPED ALEX ALSO, TREE IN 1 GAME LOOKED VERY, VERY GOOD AND ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER. HE IS SCARING THE DIVISIONAL TEAMS. I KNOW IT’S ONLY HIS FIRST GAME BUT HE HAS BETTER HANDS THAN THE FITZ’S, NOT SURE ABOUT JUMPING ABILITY. WITH HIM AND VD THE NINERS WILL OPEN UP THE RUNNING GAME FOR THE “FTG” FRANK THE TANK GORE. NOW WITH ALEX WORKING WITH THE FIRST TEAM FROM NOW ON AND ALL THE WEAPONS HE HAS, (BEST EVER ON TEAM WITH HIM AT QB) THE TEAM WILL ROLL. IF WE CAN STEAL ONE AT PEYTON PLACE WE HAVE A SCHEDULE THAT WE CAN GET A BUNCH OF WINS. ALEX CAN CARRY US UNTIL (NATE THE GREAT DAVIS IS READY) AND HE IS THE REAL DEAL, WE WILL HAVE A VERY GOOD SEASON AND SEE THE PLAYOFFS FROM THE FIELD AS WE PLAY AGAINST A TEAM. GORE IS THE BEST CATCHING RB AND HE WILL BE USED LIKE THAT. SO TEAMS WILL NOW SEE A STRONG ARM QB WITH AN ADDED WEAPON ALONG WITH A RUNNING BACK THAT HAS A HUNGER TO GET THE BALL IN HIS HANDS. SO IN CLOSING NO NEED TOO BE SCARED. THE 49ER’S WILL AND I SAID WILL WIN THE DIVISION.
Right
As soon as I saw the CAPS I skipped down to your comment! Will these guys ever learn CAPITALS ARE AWEFUL!
Suddenly, the division race is open again.

Closed for the Seahawks
The Cardinals look like they might take the division and run away.
They have a fairly easy schedule remaining.

As do we.
We need to beat them at home now to have a shot. And we have to beat at least one other good team.

Our schedule isn't really easy.
If the team can go on a tear and beat JAC, GB, CHI, and PHI then we may have a chance.
But that should be very difficult.

I suppose
Jacksonville isn’t as easy an out as it looked like a few weeks ago.

A Cardinals win tonight
really puts a damper on the possibility that the 49ers go 6-0 within the division, win the west with a 6-10 record.
Might be being a bit optimistic at this point.
This was a game we should have won. Now, we’re going to have to pull off some miracles and/or upsets to do any better than 9-7.

That would be too awesome.

Wild card is not out of the question too.
The Bears lost again, the Packers have a similar record. The Eagles, Giants and Cowboys will start to play each other.
Plus the Falcons lost too
The 49ers need to find an identity and stick to it.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

alex smith is now our best option at qb. we still have no o line. defense is playing progressively worse each game now. still no running game. and the cards just beat the damn giants……….yes. be afraid. be very very afraid.

oh and now we muff punts since we got rid of rossum......that was a brilliant move

Rossum was making a bunch of silly mistakes.
I admit that we need someone else returning punts, but on kickoffs, Michael Robinson is very steady. He averaged 33 yards per return, and you don’t have to worry about him fumbling or doing something stupid. His average of 26.4 yards per return is only 3 yards off the league leader.

Silly mistakes?
What might those be? I don’t really seem to remember them, so a refresher would be nice.
They don't matter now.
Rossum got hurt on his first return for the Cowboys and is out 2-4 weeks. His mistakes included a misjudged punt, a fumble, and he just wasn’t getting it done as he had in the past. Rossum’s highest career average in any one season was 26.8, Robinson is averaging 26.4 so there is really no change in field position.
Kezarvet
You can't...
… just use the average kick return stats, though. Up until this past week, punts weren’t that big of a disaster yet, but Battle dropped a ball that I think an experienced punt returner would have caught.
