NN Reader demographic poll
I've been out in Washington, DC the last few days for a wedding and some vacation and I came to a realization. There is such a drastic difference in viewing sports as far as just the different time zones. I always knew about it, but everytime I come back east it really hits me. For example, the 49ers played at 1pm out here on Sunday. Normally that's not a big deal, but this week it was the early game so I didn't have football until then. Then last night, Monday Night Football ended close to midnight. Consider that another reason to enjoy the west coast.
Where it has really gotten odd for me is in posting to the site. I'd wake up out here around 9 or 10 am, and when I would go to the site, obviously just the Nuggets are up. I've found myself posting some stuff a bit earlier the last couple days because of that.
In the past we've done some demographic type posts, but I wanted to go with a different angle on this. What time zone do you live in? I've attached a poll and if you're outside the big 4, please specify in the comments if you get a chance. I'd imagine most folks are pacific time zone, but I'm curious just how many are not. If we end up with a huge chunk living on the east coast, I'm tempting to start scheduling morning posts a bit earlier.
Right now, the Nuggets go up at 3am pacific/6am eastern, the first substantive post goes up at 8amPST/11amPST and the next post often goes up around 11amPST/2pmEST. Depending on the results of the poll (and of course comments from everybody here), I might make some changes. Also, this poll is not being distributed out to Google News, Yahoo! Sports and so forth. All readers are important, but I'd like to think if you're coming directly to the site you're probably one of our more frequent visitors, and the people this would most affect.

I live in the bay area.
But i lived in New jersey for 7 years… Personally, I liked the games on at 1pm, and 4pm (830 sunday/monday nighter). Here are my reasons why. First off, i would always go to the jets home games and they would usually start at 4pm. I LOVED this. It gave everyone 3 extra hours of tailgating… We would usually go to the game around 11 and get there at about 12. And have a good 4 hours of tailgating. But out here, I wake up at 8am..and i am on 101 north by 9am.. Get to the stadium by 10-1030 and have 2-2 1/2 hours of tailgating…
My other reason why i like the east coast times was becasue whenever i was at a party or get together or anything at night time, there would always be a game on. A game to watch at a party is always necessary.. I used to love the late games….
Well thats it, just thought i would give my perspective.

London, England
The 1pm Eastern games were 6pm, now 5pm because we changed our clocks (does the US change the clocks). The 4pm games were 9, now 8. You all know that, because I bang on about my lack of sleep a lot when the Niners play at 1pm Pacific, 4pm Eastern. It means I go to bed after midnight – I don’t care because I love the 49ers more than my wife and children, and somewhere just below breathing.
Still working out how I’m gonna play the Bears/Cards games on the Thurs/Mon nights. They cause me some issues.
To answer Fooch’s question, I am technically in Greenwich Mean Time. If Fooch had posted this last week, I would not have been in Greenwich Mean Time. I would have been in British Summer Time. British Summer is officially over now, like the Niners’ play-off hopes (JOKE)

Des Moines, IA
I now know what you mean Fooch. I went to Phoenix, AZ in September and didn’t even think about time difference when it came to football. I wanted to watch the Iowa vs Iowa State game and realized I had to get up at 9AM to watch it when I’m used to seeing those games at 11AM. I’m used to NFL games starting at noon and I feel that works out perfectly. If you go to church you won’t be missing out on the game. It’s lunch time so I can just go to the sports bar and grill a block away and get some lunch. It’s kinda nice because on Sundays kids eat free and I always take my 3 year old with me.
The biggest problem is that I’m surrounded by a bunch of Vikings, Packers, and Bears fans and that really sucks considering I also loathe the Packers and now the Vikings are on my S-list. Also having to go somewhere with NFL ticket to see the Niners play sucks. Its not too often they televise Niners games around here unless they are playing the Bears, Packers, Vikings, Lions, or St Louis and half the time when they are playing those teams they don’t televise them anyway.

I can’t even imagine being up for football that early… I love the games being at 1pm and 4pm… We normally make a good day out of it hanging with neighbors at someone’s house… Depending on the SNF game, sometimes we make a whole day/night of watching football, drinking, goofing off, etc…

I thought that I was the only 49er fan in High School and college. Then I got back from school and found that there are hundreds of 49er fans here in the East. We go to a bar in NYC called Finnerty’s Irish Pub on Sunday for the game. Its an oasis in the city for 49er fans. $2 PBR tall boys and free wings at halftime. No…I don’t work for the place, but its a great place to watch the games with other faithful fans.

I have been to 2 SF vs. AZ games
since living in AZ and both times, there were alot more Niner fans there then I expected. I think it had to be close to a 35% 65% ratio…maybe more, who knows for sure.
It’s good to see the 49er support out here.
Unfortunately for the Cards, they have a ton of bandwagon fans that hopped on at gradual pace as last years season progressed… and rightfully so with how many losing years they’ve had in the history of their franchise. When the new stadium went up in Glendale, it was mostly businesses and business men buying all the season tickets up (NOT the 3 dedicated fans they had previously).
Before all of that, it was most often a away game for the Cards being played at home (which was Sun Devil Stadium)….good ol’ metal bench seating (Ouch) …literally. Anyway, I guess where I was going with that before I drove off the road was that there are a ton of transplants in AZ. Alot of fans of alot of teams out here.

SF fans in AZ
My first NFL game ever was the season opener this year in AZ and I was surprised with all of the Niners fans there. Your ratio was about right for that game. I will also say that the Cardinal fans were very respectful for the most part and didn’t get any problems from any of them even after the win at all the bars we went to. I was impressed.
by Haggardninja on Oct 27, 2009 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I pretty much witnessed the same thing. Westgate was pretty mellow (no fighting) afterward. In comparison to a non-football weekend.
Same thing after the Monday Night game last year. For the most part people were either talking about how lucky they (AZ) got or how it was one of the best fought games they had seen. Both games, my seats were in the middle of a bunch of Niner fans, so needless to say, it was pretty fun.

Been a Niner fan since I was five (1981) and like all of us who remember the glory days, I am still waiting for that return to greatness. In the mean time, there are so few Niner fans in N.Y.C. and I often sit alone in some nameless sports bar watching games in a sea of Giant blue, hard to swallow after the playoff game in 1990.
