Cards vs Panthers: who do you want to win?

While most people will probably want Arizona to fall seeing as they're our current division rivals playoff-wise, we have also traded a second and fourth round pick in 2009 for Carolina's top pick in 2010, so if Arizona were to prevail (which they most likely will), our acquired draft choice would rise in the draft order. If the Panthers net us a top 10 pick, we could use it to potentially draft an elite offensive tackle, which we clearly need, or we could go after Eric Berry, a dynamic playmaking safety who has drawn comparisons with Ed Reed. An elite quarterback prospect like Sam Bradford could also be an option. So what do you think? Shall we root against our division rivals and hope to keep our playoff hopes alive, or do you think those hopes are dashed and that we should look towards the future. Your call.

I'm a bit conflicted, but...

I’m hoping that Delhomme actually blows the doors off the Cards so that John Fox can justify continuing to play him for multiple weekends in a row despite throwing the INTs that have put them on the losing track so far.
(yeah, repost, but it’s justified)

Nice point

The Cards get the L, and Delhomme gets the chance to ruin another 4 weeks for Car.

Let’s do it that way.

I want to see the Cardinals win simply because there is still enough time left

The QB change can start a downswing even further for Carolina

Your poll

it is confusing.

by Kaizre on Oct 28, 2009 8:19 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree

Does voting “Cards suck! We’re going all the way this year!” mean you want the Cards to win or lose? Same with “Panthers! One high draft choice coming up!” The question in the subject asks “who do you want to win”, but the poll options are worded in a way that implies “who do you want to lose?” Although I guess the Cards poll option doesn’t imply anything towards winning or losing, and could go either way. One Cards suck, we want them to lose because we’re going all the way, or Cards suck, it doesn’t matter if they win this game because we’re still going all the way this year.

I dunno, I’m lost.

Are you an idiot?

I am not going to be part of your poll because its obvious we want the Panthers to beat the Cards! go become a raider fan and be ignorant over on that side of the bay. We have a chance this year to do something good. I cannot believe this post?

The panthers losing to the Cards is more significant than the cards losing to them

Other than Carolina’s remaining game against Tampa the Cards are about tied for Carolina’s EASIEST game. You read that right. The only games they stand a chance in hell in are Cards, Tampa, Jets, Miami. All but one of whom, (tampa of course), I think beat their ass. If they lose to the Cards and Tampa they are almost certainly gonna end up no better than 3-13 without some miracle turnaround. 3-13 Carolina = top 7-8 draft pick.

Gimme 1 round!

That's ridiculous

Why wouldn’t you vote Carolina lose? we have a game left vs Cardinals they have 2 losses and we have 3 and we have one game left against them, obviously you are scared of the 9ers playing them and I am not.

Ridiculous is hoping for a higher draft pick vs. a spot in the playoffs.
obviously you are scared of the 9ers playing them and I am not.

Premise 1: you win your division if you have the highest number of games won.
Premise 2: if you win your division you make the playoffs/
Premise 3: if your opponents have fewer wins you can winy, our win total may be lower and you can still win your division, and thus make the playoffs.
Corollary: Any game that a Niners division rival loses improves the chances of the Niners winning the division and making the playoffs.
Thus the conclusion: Cards loss=good for the Niners

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that the Niners get the Panthers 1st-rounder, but a few picks up or down (due to a Panthers win or loss this weekend) does less to change the culture in the locker room than a season in which a team makes the playoffs.

One more note

I posted the block quote intending to say that ‘scared of the Cards’ has nothing to do with whether you think a Cards loss vs. the Panthers is a good or bad thing.

I think it's ridiculous to doubt anyone's fanhood based on their opinion about this game.

Should have clarified that. I don’t need any explanation of how the records work as far as getting into the playoffs. I want to see that pick be as high as possible. I would also rather our team get to the playoffs and not be depending on other teams to do so. We gave 2 games away this year already. I would rather root for remaining teams on their schedule, plus I don’t believe the Panthers can win this game AT ALL.

I hope Arizona loses.. but I see it as a win win win situation.. if Arizona wins that’s better for our 1st round draft from Carolina.. if Carolina wins we are 1 step closer to being in the lead of our division again.. if they tie than we get half a step closer to being in the lead of our division and Carolina still doesn’t get a chance to make their record better

One of those perfect non-Niner games

Like NY vs Dallas ~ one of them has to lose and that’s always a good thing.

The future ain't what it used to be.

Panthers for sure

AND Warner sprains his shoulder after getting planted in the earth by Eugene Brown.

Delhomme throws three picks but for decent yardage – i.e. bad enough to keep his confidence shaky, but not bad enough to get him benched. MVP! MVP! MVP!

I really hadn't thought about the possiblity of a Warner injury.

If we beat Indy, I don't care which team wins

But if we lose, I’d prefer Carolina win. Whatever the result, I hope it’s a tightly contested and physically draining game for both teams that leaves them exhausted and sloppy the following week.

So I voted Panthers, the higher the pick, th emore options for the future.

We’re in the middle of a race and you want the Cards to win so we can move up a spot or two in the draft? Ridiculous.

That loss for Carolina will be very significant

Considering if they blow their rematch with Tampa they could end up 2-14 with their schedule. 4-12 we are Drafting maybe in the top 10 with how bad teams are this year at the bottom. 3-13 We are in the 7-8 neighborhood and 2-12 we’re looking at a top 4 pick which we can trade down still get anybody we want on the OLine and a 2nd rounder to get another OLine guy. I could miss the playoffs 1 more year to secure the future of the franchise for the next 15 and the restart of a dynasty.

and we still control our destiny no matter what. I guess you don’t have faith in the Niners keeping pace with the Cards and smoking them again when we play again.

Let’s make sure we all understand… Regardless of whether you root for Carolina or Arizona, the impact of your rooting interest will have zero impact on this game. You might find it ridiculous to root one way or the other, but it’s not like it really matters. It won’t make anyone less of a fan, and anyone’s rooting won’t affect the performances of Delhomme or Warner.

Just so we’re all clear. And to me, I don’t care who wins, it’s a win-lose situation either way for the Niners.

I'm thinking but nothing's happening.

Wow

I cannot believe that anybody will be rooting for the cardinals to win. That pisses me off. Your probably the type of fan who roots for the other team to get hurt, or goes to the games and does not cheer, or cries every play for a penalty to happen or stops watching the 49ers when they are out of the playoff race, or starts 49er opponents for your fantasy team, or sells your tickets to the other teams fans, or wants the 49ers to move out of the bay area, or you root only for the teams who win, or your probably were a chicago bulls fan, or you liked the steelers, or the giants the year before, or the colts before that, or you still wear non authentic jeff garcia jerseys, or even worse have a a non authentic drunkenmiller jersey, or wants the 49ers to go for it on 4th and 10 on there own 20 in the first quarter, or or or I am running out of stuff.

Please do not root for the cards to win, if so kill yourself.

Those of us that are rooting for the Cards to win

ARE the ones that watch when the Niners suck. I will still be watching if we’re out of playoff race building a stockpile of tomorrows stars. I think the same probably could not be said about you.

I think the Cards can win this and we can still most certainly beat them

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Oct 30, 2009 5:33 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Also

What retard wouldn’t start your best players just because they are playing against the Niners? What are you 10? It sucked watching Owen Daniels, Slaton and Schaub shred the 9ers but I wasn’t gonna bench my stars for something that wouldn’t change anything. Now there is a bit of an issue drafting the best players from a rival team. Say… Aikman during the 9ers Cowgirls rivalry.

Is was all just sarcasm. Its my sense of humor, ten year olds sense of humor? I dont know. But please dont take offense to some of the things i said in there, it was mostly a joke. Just dont root for the cards.

We will still get a good draft pick out of them but we need them to win this one. It’s huge.

Just read a stat

That says Jake is 4-0 career vs AZ (regular season). I know, likely means nothing. But if he pulls out an upset, it means he played very well and someone will mention him being 5-0. Perhaps all those INTs in the playoffs made up for his past success and now he’s due to play well again vs AZ. I can hope.

Heard from a Panther friend

That after the last AZ game (post season) the QB coach started to try and change Jake’s mechanics. That’s understandable to a degree but also he has one bad game, that’s no reason to scrap everything. So now he’s pretty much told Jake just throw the Mofo, don’t worry about it. And yes I’d rather have the Carolina Cats win the game than the Arizona Birdies. In the long run it is a better situation for us Gold Diggers. :-)

Need to revise the NFL rules:

In case of tie both teams are charged with a loss. That would help us all root for the same thing, and it would make teams go for the TD rather than a field goal, and a 2pt coverion if needed. Just a joke!!
