New Blog: The Boxing Bulletin for Boxing Fans!

Just a quick thanks

First off I'm a Colts fan if you didn't notice already lol and I'm not here to tell you how bad we are gonna beat up on you guys this Sunday. I don't know about anyone else but I am really looking forward to our battle this Sunday. It's going to be a very good game and I expect you guys to put up a fight. The Colts haven't really had much a challenge this year and I'm ready to see if this Colts team can rise to this challenge. The 49ers have great players on both sides of the ball and it's really gonna be a challenge for this Colts team.

The whole reason I am writing this post is because I want to thank you guys for all the positive interaction with you guys. A fellow SBN blog, of whom I will not mention a name, said that you guys would be rude and so far I have not seen that from you. The interaction has been (mostly) positive and your people have been very respectful and in return I want to say thanks. Some people can be just down right nasty and that just snowballs and in my opinion makes blogging no fun. Sure trash talking is fun, but positive feedback is always good too. With that being said I want to say good luck to you guys and good luck on the rest of the season. I would personally like to see the 49ers make a playoff run and you have the players to do well. I look forward to the rest of the interactions between these two blogs leading up to Sunday!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

I agree

I always prefer spirited debate to nasty trash talking. I think it will be a good game as well and I’m really looking forward to seeing if the Niners can really challenge the Colts with their offensive and maybe even keep Peyton Manning in check (though not likely).

2 keys for OUR success

And this is by no means earth-shattering, as far as how to play Indi. First we need to get Frank Gore and our running game going, the more we control the ball, the less time and opportunity Mr. Manning and Co have to carve us up. The second key will be getting routine pressure on Mr. Manning w/o having to blitz. Hopefully, if our offensive strategy proves ineffective through the first few drives, Jimmy Raye can get creative w/ Smith under center and we can get some cheap points. I’m not ashamed to admit it, we’re going to need all the points we can get, so trick plays, surprise onside kicks, you name it- we should do it (and only do the wildcat w/ Michael Robinson, he at least is a threat to pass).
On another note Coltsfan, your attitude in this post (and I’m sure out of the post) fits your team, you’ve (as a fan and team) obviously seen success before, its nothing new and operate as tho you’ve been ‘there’ before (its refreshing). Our teams of the 80’s and 90’s provided that sort of atmosphere for our fans, and to a large degree (as fans) we’ve lost that sort of ‘mature/humble swagger’; then again we haven’t had much to swag about. On the flip side, should we win this one, you won’t find yourself eating some serious crow because of prior statements (well played sir).

just to add to your Keys of Success

get the lead early….if the Colts get a decent lead early you can pretty much forget about winning. Not saying that to sound like a jerk but its the truth. This Colt team is built to play with the lead. Once we have the lead we set the pass rushers loose to maul the QB and it works. As for what you stated above if you can get pressure without blitzing thats your best option. If you come with the blitz Peyton will pick it up and make you pay for it. And honestly Joseph Addai is the man when it comes to picking up the blitzes and keeping them off Manning. And yes if you can run the ball then you better run it. This team isn’t the best run defense team in the league so I expect Gore to have a good game.

True

the 49ers can forget about winning it the Colts go up early 14-0 or something like that. I expect the 49ers to run more 3 and 4 WR’s sets , this should bring more colt defenders outside the box and open it up for Gore. It all hinges on our ability to block Freeney and Mathis, thats a hard assignment if i have ever heard one. If Smith has time and can get some pass protection i do think Crabtree, Morgan and Davis will find separation.

On the defensive side of the ball. Indy needs to watch out for the 49ers switching coverage on the outside and having our best cover corner Shawntae Spencer go up against Reggie Wayne, this of course if Wayne is able to be a difference maker considering his injury. Donald Brown’s loss really hurts Indianapolis because the 49ers have a real good rush defense but then again making Indianapolis one dimensional may not be the best thing in the world with Manning behind center.

I think the Colts

will get enough yards on the ground to at least make keep the defense guessing. Will it be a lot? Doubt it but it will be enough that the D will have to honor it and that will open up play action, and I dont think anyone runs play action like Peyton.

No problem.

I was actually really liking Stampede Blue, very nice blog, good posts and cool posters. Good stuff.

Though I’m very intrigued to know who it is that said those nasty things about us. I’m betting it was the Phins.

It couldn't possibly be him, no way!!!

Oh, and by the way, Andre Johnson is WAAAAAAYYYY better than Reggie Wayne is and Marvin Harrison ever was, Daniels is better than Clark, and Shaub had a bye week in Week one, so that doesn’t really count.

When we tried to point out the flaws in these little “facts” Texansforever took it a little personally… About our team they were pretty sane, though lacked information like “The Niners LOLine is terrible.” About their team, not so much. Apparently the Texans are the greatest thing ever, watch out!

Rant over.

yeah we had that conversation with them

and we were showing them stats that showed them Reggie Wayne was better and they said stats didnt matter and Reggie has 3 years on Andre blah blah blah and then guess what they did…tried to bring in stats that made Andre out to be the better reciever. But Andre could never NEVER make the catches make. I just let them ramble and think what they want. If it helps them feel better about NEVER HAVING A WINNING RECORD then they can have it. Everyone know who’s better and they will realize it some day. Don’t get me wrong Andre is a beast..but Reggie is better

I think its an insecurity complex

Looking at them on the field, it’s certainly worth discussion. Looking statistically, Reggie has 6 consecutive 1000 yard seasons and 3 10TD seasons. Andre has 3 1000 yard seasons in his career and zero 10 TD seasons. It’s ridiculous from that standpoint. If Andre puts up another 1500 yard season this year and hauls in 12TDs, then we can have a realistic discussion. But until you actually put up the numbers, you don’t belong in the equation (numbers… equation… get it?). Unless you’re like Hines Ward squared when it comes to blocking.

They’ve clearly heard all the arguments before. When one of us tried to suggest that we’re better from a DVOA standpoint (a fairly reliable metric) they said “Yeah, I was waiting for somebody to bring that up, it doesn’t matter, we’re better.”

the rudeness goes both ways. As for you coltsfan and the other guys, thanks for the kind words, You guys have always been a pretty classy fan base IMO and I am a big fan of your team…well except for this Sunday. I hope to see a hard fought , close matchup with no injuries on either side. Good luck with the rest of your season :)

I Respect Everything The Colts Have Done

And they should be a model for what my 49ers do. Everything from ownership down to the 53rd man on the roster represents that organization in a great way. It doesn’t hurt that they have one of the best QB’s to ever play but the stability of the organization since Dungy took over has been second to none.

That said this would be a watershed victory for the 49ers. If they can come into Indianapolis and beat a 7-0 team then many questions will be answered regarding weather or not the 49ers are for real.

Let me put it this way

I’m not pulling for a Colts loss in this game, however it something happens and we do loose I’m not gonna sweat it. You guys are an NFC team and we can afford a loss to you. But still Id like to see this team keep rolling through. Home field advantage and a first round BYE in the playoffs sound really good and a win only helps our chances

Thanks for the kind words

I have family in Indy so I have always rooted for the Colts, but the respect and decency of most all of the Colts fans I have met makes it even easier. They are a model organization that every team (including the Niners without a doubt) would do well to emulate.

By the way, your sig is hilarious.

haha thanks

Bob is my favorite player. Im a Iowa Hawkeys guy and I was glad that the Colts picked him up. He is kind of a hot topic over at Stampede Blue. A lot of people think the Colts should trade him because he hasnt even played half a seasons worth of games and they are paying him big bucks, but I think Bob is the spark plug for our defense. He is a beast at the SS position and to trade him would be a bad idea. He is no doubt a game changer. He is A LOT of the reason the Colt defense picked up their game in the run to the SB in 06. With the new defense I think Bob will be able to remain healthy because other people are stepping up and making plays. I mean for a while Bob WAS the run defense. And he plays with reckless abandonment. I love the guy.

And he plays with reckless abandonment.

I hate to be the one to break it to ya, but that’s likely not going to change. Which means his injuries will pile up and he’ll age quickly. Maybe he’ll learn though, but that’ll make him a less effective player. A double edged sword.

i dont think so as much anymore. This defense actually tackles now and Bob doesnt have to take it into his own hands. Will he still have highlight hit? absolutly! but hopefully it wont be as often and nasty as before.

That's a stupid question

Peyton was more highly rated to begin with, and they’ve had almost a dozen years to forget, or selectively remember, who they really wanted. I know I’d train myself to forget wanting Leaf over Manning…

I was...

… 16 at the time and seem to remember liking Peyton, primarily because Peyton’s physical tools aren’t anything to really scoff at but he was a lot more prepared, mentally. Even if Leaf was remotely close to Manning, was he really worth what the Chargers gave up to get him?

by sfgfan on Oct 30, 2009 10:52 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I liked Manning because

was the more mature football player of the two like you said he was a lot more mentally prepared. If Leaf was really that good do you think he would have finished 3rd in the Heisman running. Manning was second. Dont get me wrong in college he was a top notch player. But he was not prepared for the Pros. He even said it himself years later. And no he was not worth what the Chargers gave up for him. The Chargers held the third pick of the draft, but made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to guarantee their team would get one of the two quarterbacks. To move up to the second pick in the draft, the Chargers traded two first-round picks, a second-round pick, reserve linebacker Patrick Sapp and three-time Pro Bowler Eric Metcalf.
