49ers-Rams Open Thread #3

  Th_rams_icon_medium @ 49ers_logo_medium

This thread will hopefully carry folks through to Florida Danny's recap.  In my viewing of the game, there are 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and it's 21-0 49ers.  I was a little worried early but the defense is turning in a fantastic performance thus far.  I certainly enjoyed the Vernon Davis touchdown, but it's safe to say the offense has struggled outside of that drive.  Now it's time to implement the 5th part of Mike Singletary's Formula for Success: FINISH.

Once again, if you're into this thread quickly, please post a link to it in the second open thread.  Thanks.

GO NINERS!

I know it's the Rams and all.....

But we have got one hell of a defense. Pure dominance. Again, I realize it is St. Louis.

It is a great defense. The Niners are number one in the NFC in run defense.

2 sacks, INT for TD….

And Fearless Frog said he wasn’t a playmaker like Lofa Tatupu……LOL

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

What a win!

I am not sure I have ever had so much fun sober on my own on a Sunday night at midnight … Good night Niners Nation. 3-1, a defense to be proud of, and we’re on our way to a divisional title. Go Niners!

LOL I think my wife summed it up best..

I told her about London’s post and then said the Niners won 35 to Zip..she mouthed that then asked “And who were they playing?” I said “The Rams” She said “Oh” (not deflated response)

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Oct 4, 2009 4:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Ha ha .. cheers ChesapeakeBay9er ...

I went up to bed, after midnight, and my wife was asleep but stirred a little when I opened the door. “We won!” I said, not that she cares. “Who did you beat?” she asked. “The Rams” I replied. “I like the little Ram pattern on their helmets” she said. “Hey – we’re Niners fans in this house” I said, raising my voice ever-so-slightly (I was still a bit excited from the win). “Please don’t wake the children” she said, before turning over and going back to sleep ;)

I see the use of the word "fact" thrown about far too often around here.

People think that as long as you cite one favorable statistic, then your argument cannot be refuted. This is a very limited viewpoint.

My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

by shlecko on Oct 4, 2009 4:55 PM PDT up reply actions

"fact" ??

What was his QB rating? That isn’t “throwing around facts” it is posting what is obviously true.

Playoffs? Playoffs? Playoffs? Your Talking about Playoffs? Yes Sir I am!!!!!!!!!!!

by nocal81(Vincent) on Oct 4, 2009 4:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Your insinuation was that the one highlighted statistic made your viewpoint fact as well.

Saying that Hill played a good game because he posted a 100+ QB rating is no more or less valid than saying that he played a poor game because he posted less than 200 yards passing.

Obviously, both arguments are bogus – and that’s the point.

I’m not trying to convince you of anything. I just wish that everyone would stop blending opinion with statistics and using that as a means of stating that their argument is “fact”.

My pessimism goes to the point of suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists.

Ok so if we say

Hill passed for 152 yards and 2 TDs and no INTs does that pretty much summ it up on a stat perspective on Hill? :-)

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Oct 4, 2009 4:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes..

That’s it.

Guess what? If he threw for 300 yds with a 104 QB rating, that would probably be even more exceptional, would it not?

LOL yes it would but if he lost....if we lost..if the 9ers lost

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Oct 4, 2009 4:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Answering my own question to a degree

He managed the game at least, and had no TOs and the team won. Good effort by Hill. Could he have done better? possibly. Did he? No. Did what he did screw us? No.

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Oct 4, 2009 4:54 PM PDT up reply actions

What's funny is..

That even if Hill only threw one TD pass, the 49ers would still have won this game.

What I was pissed about was that until that first TD, the Rams were still in this game.

That sack total

with Jackson in the Rams’ backfield is especially satisfying. Very satisfying afternoon.

5 sacks today;

pass rush solved? or just playing the rams.

I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.

That's a dang good question

Seahawks looked scary that first week when they played the Rams. Of course we have more of a track record this year to look on.

just heard on the radio

first niners shutout in 7 years. and the rams have lost 14 in a row.

I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.
