49ers Defense Brings it!!!! every week.
I am pumped up still, at 4am ET watching all the highlights over, and over again. On the east coast I have been hard pressed to see 49ers highlights on ESPN. Since the "Miracle in Minnesota" last week, the niners have been on the highlight reel a bit more. Now we are on all day long. I am greatful for what Coach Singletary has done for my team. Our defense is looking a lot like those 2000 Ravens, even better. I know it was the Rams, but sinse the season opener against the Cardinals, we've been showing signs of our arrival. Today for the first time this season I was able to see an entire game. I hit up a local sports bar in the Charlotte NC area. Needless to say I had to buy out the bar to get the 49ers game aired on one of the Direct TVs. What stood out during the course of the game was how well the defense swarmed to the ball carrier. I see much improvement in our over all team defense. I also recognized how well veteran Takeo Spikes was playing. I realize Willis, Lawson, and Smith have been our anchors, but Spikes has really been busy on every snap. I am glad we did sign him again in the off-season. He compliments Willis on the inside, and he is in on every play. I am also glad to see Manny Lawson finally playing to his potential. He still has some upside though. We are stopping the run as well as any team in the league. Now all we need for the Lombardi trophy is for our offense to balance things out. Shawn Hill, and company are playing solid, but I know we will be more dangerous as the season progresses.......Peace...Stelf Bombz

A premier defense
The D seems to be improving every week. Granted, it was only the Rams…. But if we keep performing at this level, there’s going to be no offense in the league that can play with us.
still havent allowed a rushing TD all season.
or a 100-yard rusher.
I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility.
That is sweet. Our D is going to be god like.

It's kind of amazing, actually
-Singletary sees unselfishness as the top trait on defense. “That’s why I know this going to be a great defense,” he said. “These guys don’t care who gets the credit. It’s amazing to me. Usually guys want the sack … These guys sit in the room talk about the game plan and talk about what they need to do. … These guys are real excited, they get along together.”
(See this)
The 49ers destroyed the Rams yesterday, and while it was the Rams, the defense is clearly building a reputation. What just occurred to me is that Singletary seems to have built an attitude on defense that translates to results, something that I thought wasn’t possible.
That is, as a big fan of Bill Walsh’s from his first go-round at Stanford, I was always impressed that his system got production out of guys who were not considered star quality. It was always based on a system that created options, knowing that if you executed well enough and made good decisions, then you could exploit the fact that the defense can’t really cover everything, even with better athletes. Conversely, on the defensive side he knew you had to have the athletes – no amount of razzle dazzle makes up for it. So he drafted Lott, Williamson, and Wright early and went with a 3/4 rookie secondary (and one second year Dwight Hicks) and it worked.
Now maybe the guys the 49ers have added on D besides Patrick Willis are really that good, but I’m getting more of a sense that Singletary’s getting more out of them than Nolan could. That’s contrary to my previous world view, and really something.
"The questions are so stupid. I don't believe in rivalries. I don't believe in curses. Wake up the damn Bambino, maybe I'll drill him in the ass."
- Pedro Martinez, asked about the Curse of the Bambino
Crabz!!!! An official 49er. Who would have known.
I knew we would get better in the near future. I just didn’t know how. Here’s some food for thought. After the bye week, Frank Gore, and Crabtree together in the line up…The hold out has been such a drag that the prospect of him actually signing seems surreal. Almost to good to be true. Well, I will welcome him with open arms. Not only could we utilize him to bolster what we already have on offense, but to be frank, I really resent the idea that we just lose out on our 2009 draft pick. So I am in favor of Crabz doning a Brandon Marshallesque jersey in red, and white. We can only go up from here….Peace..Stelf Bombz
?
He’s not an official 49er by any stretch of the imagination. He’s simply coming to San Francisco for negotiations.

So … must not have done that today then, huh – don’t you know that if it works the first time, you’re supposed to do the same thing every Sunday?
"We’ll see them again in the playoffs." - Mike Singletary, right after the Week 3 Minnesota game
Looks like
the Niners accidentally left the D at home this morning, hopefully they will remember to bring it when they visit Houston in 2 weeks. (They better FedEx it to themselves at the hotel a few days in advance of the game just to be safe…)
Well, at least we beat the Rams...
